Here we go again. Aftermarket molding clip doesn't work. Why sell this shit. See attached picture. The one on the right is original and the one on the left is after market.

Disappointing for sure. That stud looks very short.

we had ours made with the stud a bit longer to accommodate for body filler better too long than too short. Maybe though the one you got had an odd stud welded to it, happens. I doubt that we investing so much in tooling and quantities would make it with a stud too short

I feel your pain. So tired of people that sell stuff that is totally unfit for its intended purpose.

The split lock washer is completely unnecessary. Maybe if you just do nut and flat washer it will be long enough?

It’s wrong but typical for aftermarket. I would cut it off and weld on a longer one. It’s the kind of thing we have to do 1000x over when building a car.

I agree but pet states lock washer and nut. Just saying. I try and build the way it was on every thing. I can barely get the nut on. Thats in a pretty tight space.

That’s fine if you’re trying to build concours project.

Otherwise lock washers used up through the 70s do absolutely nothing to “lock” fasteners. NASA fastener design manual from 90s clearly states this along with tons of fastener torque testing within various industries.

Just trying to give you an option

Use a nut with a serated flange. A lot easier to install.

Guys even though I appreciate the education on the different lock washers like spring, serrated, wavy. You’re missing the point of my post. The freaking stud on the after market part is to short. And yes trying to make it concourse. I know nobody will probably ever see it. My main point is and always has been to make things as they were intended and not to re-engineer everything. If your going to make an aftermarket part make it correct.

Gotya! So you don't need our help here... you're just ranting. hissyfit.gif That's fine. I think everyone here has faced similar issues with replacement parts. Frustrating for sure.

I completely understand your frustration. Get ready to experience a lot more of it. Very few of the vendors produce a 100% accurate, concours quality part.

I’m not trying to justify the short nut, I think it is pathetic that parts like this are produced and sold when the vendor knows damn well (or should know) that the parts don’t work as intended. As was stated early in this the thread, return the part to the vendor, hopefully they have a better part for you, or can refund your money and use the info to correct their defective parts.

However, I’ve been messing with 914s a long time and can tell you with certainty that having a part that can be made to work or modified to work is better than no part at all in many cases. Even with the multiple vendors that we have, there are still a lot of NLA parts.

If you are wanting to put together a concours level car, you’ll be much better served by trying to find OEM parts used on the WTB forum rather than buying new aftermarket.

Good luck with your build and sorry you’re having to deal with shady parts. beerchug.gif

Now that is great advice. I will look for more used OEM stuff in the future. The vendor has made good. And I will stop my bitching since I am preaching to the choir.

What a hassle. FMTT. Purchase a couple of good used ones and clean them up. Cutting, purchasing what you might not have, welding and everything that goes with that? Nope. Is the retailer working with you on this? If not, contact your CC company and disallow the charge.

Often when I go for the low price and items from a certain country it seems that material costs have been literally shaved as far as possible. Machine screws fit, but they are loose due to lack of metal. To us, it seems a shame to put in the work to make a part and then have it be useless for lack of 10%. I deduce that materials in some places are worth far more than labor. My wife buys stuff from Temu. Clearly the makers don't have a clue about what the things they produce are for or do. In that circumstance, errors are possible.

Get a good used one. You are not likely to change the quality of aftermarket parts.

Yep vendor made good. I think I will be doing more WTB or hey anyone have one of this of that in the future. I clean paint or plate all my own stuff anyway. Thanks guys. Onward I go.
