Great day at Jamie"s and Parts Obsolete. Cruising north on I-5 following Craig Laughlin and Kevin Powers. Lots of traffic. I get boxed in and they get ahead of me but still in sight. Hear a noise, hear it again, generator light ignites.......fan belt. Forgot cell phone at home....gotta catch the guys....boxed in ....oil temp and cyl. temp beginning to climb........better stop....in luck, I can see the Wilsonville rest stop. Pay phone, call Craig's cell...."HELP....come back and get me". "On my way" he says. Ten minutes later he pulls in to the rest stop and hands me his cell phone. I say "what for?" He says "call your wife, I just broke my fan belt!". I say you're shi..en me, he says "no". I call. Wife arrives at rest stop 30 minutes later, laughing loudly, brings camera.......

UNVELIEVABLE! laugh.gif
who's who in the pic?
Porsche Rescue
Wife takes wayward travelers (beltless) to my garage. Three belts on hand, two different sizes. Which is correct? I check factory manual...........
Porsche Rescue
Craig checks Haynes (support vehicle in background, wife still playing CB deMille). No spec found, take all three, tools , and head for rest stop.
Porsche Rescue
I install my belt (10x975) with close supervision.
Porsche Rescue
Craig installs his with close supervision.
Porsche Rescue
And now who's supervising? Installed 9.5x965. Wonder if Kevin is somewhere on I-5 without a belt? I have one left, size unknown.
seanery
ok, what's the rest of the story!?
Porsche Rescue
Both cars safely in garage. Wife making noises about expensive restaurant, trying not to hear.
seanery
...so did you end up going to JRusts?

Ah Man that sucks! At least it was close to home. By the way it was really great to get to meet everyone at the meet today, I had a realy great time today just getting to talk with everyone and see some beautiful cars. Jim - I still can't get over how original that car is! It's really just a beauty. Hopefully someone will post pic's of the meet soon. Mine are crap.

guys, made it home without so much as hiccup. cleared the 1k mile mark on the reassembly, i think i'm ok. but this am will check mine with a mirror (food for thought). what is the deal with getting to i-5? that route through salem is a nightmare. craig drives too fast. wink.gif. poor dave hunt is losing time in his car to his wife ohmy.gif . i came out of emory's and asked him where his car was. "betsy and sara took it". his son gerry says "can i ride with you". lonesome dave in the subaru 4 dr sad.gif . what with our alias's here i wonder who the real faces are. some name tags should have had our "handles" on them. thanks to jamie for a good job. oh by the way, if your wife should ask you if you think you should take the top with you listen to her.

kevin
Bleyseng
Kevin, you rode down and back without a top? jeez, and you were on me the other day about having mine on!

Where the pics?
John Kelly
I made it home at about midnight. My "shortcut" through Port Angeles might be the culprit. From Port Angeles to Seattle we had an unusual caravan: my wife in her Volvo turbo wagen, me in the 914, and my cousin on his Harley fatboy.

Had a great time meeting everyone, and seeing all the nice 914s. This the first time I've driven a 914 for an extended period of time. I had a blast! A big thanks to Jamie for putting this together. I hope I can stay for the whole thing next year.

And thanks to Zach for letting me put so many miles on his nasty little 914!

jim, post a picture of one of those pistons. a cr that would send you to pir to purchase race fuel, cool tho. 4 of em and no spare fan belt on board . 2 914 aces and not a spare belt in either car. craig must have been thinking " no sweat, kevin will be along in a minute." i took the 205. funny story. one for the book. he he.

Thanks to all who have chosen not to point out my stupidity (Craig's too). After a good night's sleep, I have come to my senses. Must have owned too many 911's/912's/356's over the years. It must have been in my imagination that the gauges began to climb when my alt. belt broke? Fan is lost with broken belt on the tail draggers listed above, not a type 4! I could have driven home on the battery without a problem. Dumb, real dumb. I gave my wife all those belly laughs, which will echo for weeks, for no reason!
rhodyguy
geoff, at least my top was OFF. did you get my second email or is "deamon mailer" going to tell me it didn't go through in 8 hours. bruce, it was the RAIN that started 1/2 hour after we got there. its been so nice since the car got on the road there's been no need to turn on the wipers. just a tip, if the little rubber edge is gone they don't work so well. wrong day for ax, no top and rain, perhaps fate prefers i not take my car to ore. jim, you should have let that point slide under the radar. the little drag race after we took that 90 deg right to salem was fun.

Hell I don't drive fast , that car is yellow, it's fast just sitting in Jamies parking lot, that's why the plate "FAST 14".

By the way Kevin, Betsy admits now to trying to join my midlife crisis. Actually she's not a bad driver. She really has surrendered, after we left Jamie's place we went up the street shopping. She wanted me to try on a helmet. The kicker is she had tried it on already. So maybe next year we'll both try AX. Here's a couple of Pix

The line up at Parts Obsolete. Incidentally. I got so excited at Gary's I forgot to take any pictures. That place is incredible. I needed a rubber boot that goes from the cooling shroud to the alternator and some tin so Gary says try in that shipping container on the right side. He had a whole box full and I think its NOS. Talk about a candy shop.

who's silver w/16" fuchs?

damn pretty from this angle!
Porsche Rescue
Silver with Fuchs is Tom Wilkinson's 914-6. Those are 15x6 "deep".
Eric Taylor
Yeah Tom has a beautiful car. It's a factory 6 that was built up to 190HP, and is done to look totally original. It was the first 6 I had ever seen and I was very impressed. Here is a pic I snapped of his car. The wheels just bairly fit in the back. I coudn't put a finger between the wheel and the rear fender. I guess he rolled the fenders ever so slightly.
Dave Cawdrey
I missed out. Wife was to tired, kids were sick, no accessible van (means no chair).

Guess I shouldn't have gone, anyways. I fell 4 times yesterday. Hit my head 3 outta 4 times. blink.gif

Atleast Chris got most of the paint/bondo off the rear fenders. A little more prep work is needed before the Metal Shaper's Clinic... smash.gif
ChrisReale
Hope you are ok Dave. Ya hit your dome pretty good on the door frame. sad.gif Not to mention the floor
Dave Cawdrey
I take a lickin', an' keep on tickin'...

Should be you new quote, Chris.

BTW Everyone should congradulate Chris. He is graduating in a couple weeks. He's gonna be a watch-maker, just like his dad clap56.gif beerchug.gif
