Mine with the cork screw in background. Neat event- great race track. Would make a nice annual for us West Coast guys. If it happens again I will plan on going. Got to do some endurance driving. 421 miles each way: took 6 hours going up leaving at 1AM arriving 7AM. 8hrs going back with traffic on Sunday leaving LS at 2PM home in San Diego at 10PM. Made it on one tank of gas each way!!!!!
TRE Cup
Great to meet the other 'teeners that came out to the races. I had a blast running against all that americun iron- got to blow off a few (and wish I had a carpoon for some of the others!). John's orange car had better gearing than I in Sunday's race and though my #52 car was still pushing too much, IF i could have gotten by, I would have hoped to make it into the top ten. No regrets though, it was by and by a great weekend with fun close racing. Hope to see it as part of the WCC for 06?

Nice pictures, looks like fun!

> this car puts an end to the debate if there actually ever was such a thing as 9" and 11" factory STEEL flares for the GT

How do you know they are factory flares? I've never heard of such of thing, and lots of people (Dekman down here) have built flares like that from stock GT flares...

So... what happened during the parade lap?

Yeah, what he said.

We finished one parade lap and then as we were coming up upon the racing pits the guide car sticks a finger out for what I initially thought meant one more lap but right at that moment a track worker started waving/gesturing etc... so it seemed like she was signaling me to come in. With this then I thought that the guide car by pointing his finger may have been handing me off to the her so I pulled into the racing pit entry. By the look on the track worker's face I could see she realized that she had inadvertently signaled me in, and so she then waved me through the hot pits. So we got to see what the hot pits looked like. I didn't just take it upon myself to take that exit I assure you all that I had some help from that track worker. Anyway it was not communicated how many laps we were going to take, where we would exit, etc.. so I was just following the signals the best I could. The lead 914 with the guy who knew the plan decided at the last moment to take trail position leaving me up in front. Always follow the pace car was some advice a club member gave me later-- but what if a track worker is waving you in? A bit embarrassing but I enjoyed the opportunity to get on the track nonetheless. John

I think the confusion was because I was sitting in the paddock and she was actually signalling me to come on to the track and join the group since I was late. They told me to cut across the pit lane and blend in, and as I was pulling out, everyone came rolling down the pit lane. Oh well, small detour.

Here are a few in-car photo's of the lap

How do you know they are factory flares?

well, first of all, i have a copy of a original porsche brochure that lists available tire/wheel options for the 914/6 GT race-cars.
included in that list are 9"/11" wheels to be run under 9"/11" factory flares.
according to this document, there *was* a factory option for those flares.

second, the owner of the yellow car told me that the flares were original factory GT flares.

third, i looked at them from underneath and they didn't show any signs of "widening" in the flare itself, plus they were welded to the fenders just like the original GT and m471 flares, very smooth with almost no visible seam ...

all this leads me to believe they're the real deal ...

A bit embarrassing

it's all good! beerchug.gif

i wasn't trying to blame you or anything, i just thought it was funny, jim and i were laughing for the rest of the laps. w00t.gif

actually, when i talked to bruce afterwards (the guy in the pace-car), he said that it was his fault and that as soon as he signaled the grid-master, he knew you guys would probably think he was signaling you ...

worked out just fine, plus, you got to go through the *hot* pits!

Too much self-control required. I could never drive a parade lap..

It's simple, if you screw the pooch....no more parade laps...even slow laps are better than NO laps..... happy11.gif

My pleasure, just dumb shithouse luck, I wanted to take a pic of him at the apex and when I was about to click I noticed the backend coming around...so I just waited....if I'd had my 35mm I'd have gotten several....
