This is obviously in the engine compartment.

I haven't traced the wire back yet (just thought of it) but it's in the general vicinity of the starter.

Did it have something to do with the FI (which is gone)?

Should I not worry about it since everything seems to work fine?

what color is the wire?
if green - probably the oil temperature sender wire

Looks like a stained wire that was once white, if I am seeing the pic properly. That would make it an FI wire. Near the distributor, coming from the same wiring harness that runs power to the distributor and has the tach signal wire and oil pressure light signal wire... That would make it the connector that powered the AAR (Aux Air Regulator). That's tied into the stock fuel pump power circuit.
