OK so I have these 993 rotors laying around and figure I can put them on my car and have some great brakes. I have a pair of 911 struts and hubs coming from the west coast but figured I would get a jump on this with the extra hubs I won on EBAY. That way if I mess up I can just get some carrera rotors and use regular good brakes. I have been looking at some of the 911 guys brake conversions on the bird board. The hubs need to fit down inside of these rotors but need to be modified so they will go in.

I dont have a lathe here at the house and there is a new guy over in plant maint who is watching guys to see who is doing home projects

So I figured out if I put them on the rear axel studs I could spin the axel and use a die grinder to remove the extra lip

Here is after a couple of minutes but my boy got tired of spinning the axel

I got it almost down in to the rotor but had to stop to watch the rose bowl. Will post more photos tomorow

I plan to make my own adapters for the front calipers once the struts get here. Then the next chalenge will be the rear rotors and brakes.

I will almsot guarentee these hubs are not balanced at the factory. The hubs on our riding mower look like more effort was put into making them
These had flashing on them left over from when they were made

this is a side by side comparison of the hubs

here is up close of the face end of the hub where the rotor goes up against. It is not as thin as it looks because you need to cut a 45 Deg. chamfer on the edge because down in the rotor it is not a square corner from the side to the face.

I would guess they do that because of stress.

I turned mine on a lathe to fit 996TT rotors. Unfortunately for me, the 6-piston Brembos I used didn't lend themselves to machining adapters, so I had to fully commit by cutting and welding substantial mounting blocks.
You're on the right track.

Oh yeah!
The adapters you need are available from Steve Timmins in Delaware. He's the one who first started using the late style rotors on early hubs.

Thanks, Unfortunatly the new guy in the shop has cracked down on home projects.
So I get to do this the go old fashond shadetree way and improvise. I only used up about 10 3 inch sanding discs.

It's a PCCB 6-piston caliper with Pagid pads for 996TT metal rotors. The caliper does have ceramic pistons, but the rest of my system is conventional.

Took my old brakes off the back today and started to figure out what all Ill needon that end since my front end is still in Cal. Im going to need the 100 mm studs like Joe has and a 2 inch spacer to make my wheels clear.

The old calipers are almost like new. The park brake still works smoothly on them. Im going to be putting all the old brake items in one package to sell. The rotors have some surface rust but I dont think have ever stopped a car. Remember this basic car has sat since 72.
