Trekkor,
Are you stripping it all the way down to bare metal, or just rough areas?
The body looks pretty straight as it is. smile.gif

Here's how I stretched the fenders to the limit.

Port-a-Power!

I cut a 2x4 with the same profile of the inside of the fender and used hydrolic power to bring the fender lip to 11.25" from the inner fender well.

Check this out. unsure.gif

Ha ha! I did mine the same way but with a scissor jack. biggrin.gif Looking good!
Trekkor
There are some areas on the trunks and doors that have bubbles.

Those places will get the most aggressive prep work.
The rest will be a goof scuff before the epoxy primer/sealer goes on.

Also, any areas where I find cracking old bondo get the bare metal treatment.

Power sanders and 36/40 grit are my friend.

Have we got a visual on what these stripes will look like?

Hay, since you're into the "customcarcraze" don't forget here: laugh.gif

I have always like the original Shelby stripes, but how about this version?

J P Stein
Damn....Randal has sponsers. I gots no sponsers.
Need to get me suma those. I'm tired of buying/building my own shi....stuff. biggrin.gif
Trekkor
Randal, can you put up the pic like in your avatar only regular sized?

I think the position and width of you air vents are what I'm after smile.gif

JP, I'm gonna keep my engine lid "as-is" except for the stripes.

i just got back from getting an estimate on a paint job. squeeky clean shop. much less $ than i've ever had locally. there were some examples of the guys work. i'm giving it some serious thought.

Not quite full track car, yet.

I drive around on the back roads and here and there in town.

If ( when wink.gif ) race seats and full cage are in, I may draw the line.

djm914-6
How about a wider center stripe with a thin outline...
Trekkor
I like that a lot and so does my wife. idea.gif

The pinstripe border is something I've always liked.

Nice touch up on the mock-up, BTW

Keep it coming boldblue.gif

Yes, good.
I'm torn.

One really wide one or two? idea.gif

$3050 out the door, all inclusive. i take it apart. antenna and lower sail panel trim delete, color match a smooth top that i have. L96D(silver metalic) 2-stage. i thought about a road trip via los poncho's, fly home-fly down, drive back. roughly the same ammount after everything is totaled up and no worries about a long drive home with the new paint. i've never had a qoute under $5500 local, and that's with me taking it apart. it's nice when you can look at the painters work first hand. i don't care about a photo album full of pictures. he'll assure me of a completion date.

I wasn't refering to the engine lid, Trekkor. The chrome on the targa bar was whut I was after.....tho the lid is gud too biggrin.gif

I like the one wide stripe with the pin stripe idea. I dont have a good front view but this gives you the idea beerchug.gif
Trekkor
I'm back.

I found a little bb sized rust bubble right in front of the passenger side door on the fender.

I picked at it and opened it up and now it's the size of a silver dollar ohmy.gif

KT

( thanks for the wide stripe shot, BTW. )
Trekkor
Welded it up welder.gif
I also welded the wiper spray nozzle holes shut, too.

*If* it cracks ( I already got this one covered ) I'll have vinyl pieces made to look like the plastic seals and cover them lol2.gif

Here's the grille welded...ready for body filler. smash.gif

Trek,

Did you pound down the vent and weld a piece of sheetmetal on top or cut it out first? Looking good! biggrin.gif
TravisNeff
Don't stop there, fill the rear trunk lock and use an engman cable release!
Trekkor
I welded the sheetmetal over the grill after I depressed it slightly. smash.gif

After making a paper template for fitment, I made the patch out of 18gauge.

I spent a good amount of time using the air powered jitterbug sanding board with 36 grit to get most of this side rough prepped. w00t1.gif

That's extra weight that you could have eliminated you know. rolleyes.gif

Keep those pics comin.
Trekkor
I haven't gone for any car weight loss yet. Not until I get under 180#'s myself will I touch the car. biggrin.gif

Here's a shot I swiped from Andy's SIX thread.

Trekkor,
looks like you are making good headway.

That last stripe looked great. Makes me start to think about some vinyl..... rolleyes.gif

Trekkor
I took this pic last year at the rained out GGR-TT at Sears.

It has pearl white and metalic stripes.
I think my whole scheme is a subliminal flashback to this car ph34r.gif

DanT
That car used to belong to Chuck Davis. It had a 2.7RS motor in it then. That is the motor that is now in Larry Sharp's '74 Carrera.
It has been around our series for many years in several itterations.
I forget who the new owner is, but he still attends most of our TTs. Chuck now has a older 911 chassis with FG 993 body work and a larger twin plug motor...possibly a 3.6L.

Nice car none the less.
Mark Henry
hijacked.gif

Show me a pic of that bug!

Is it an oval or a split?
DanT
Must be an oval, judging by the front turn signals. IIRC, splits had semiphores.

Also check sirandys thread on his 3.6 conversion, there is a pic of the rear. wink.gif

Trekkor
You caught me, I couldn't leave it alone! smile.gif

I started the body filler on the antenna hole, washer nozzles and inlet grill.

Put in another 3 hours.
