Tomorrow it all starts.
Gonna break it all down and start the body work.
I hope to have it DONE by next Friday.
Brandon at Altissimo Restoration (707-253-paint) will be doing the bulk of the work.
I get to do the disassembly/reassembly, welding, rear flare work, sanding, some sanding and more sanding.
Car will be factory color light ivory with bright metalic red rally stripes and the 7"steel wheels to match stripes.
I'll be filling the side marker and antenna holes.
Rear ducktail spoiler will go from black to white and the targa top will be smooth painted with the stripes over the top of both.
Any advice?

No drawings. Stripes will be W-I-D-E with little pinstripes on each side.
No wheel plans. I need 7's.

1 week?! I've had 2 p-cars stripped and painted. Each took 1 year. If you count lingering electrical issues, figure 2 years each. good luck, but uh,

Trekkor,
If you get your car back and completed before I do I am going to be really PO'd.
Seriously,
good luck with your body and paint work. The paint scheme sounds great!
Let's see, that will be two very smooth shiney track cars at GGR events this season.

Don't count me out, I picked up my AA steel GT flares today and have talked to Mark about welding them on and doing the botox on the AA wrinkles. I have a straight body with one decent dent. I want to smooth the targa top remove the sail panel vinyl, fill in the antenna and side marker holes and have the car painted outside only by season start. So we may have 3 shiny 914's debuting this year.

Very nice. I am beginning to think that I won't have my car ready until the TT#2 or at least the first CDS event at BW.
Cursed body/paint guy is stringing me along. Was supposed to be painted this past weekend. I think that it didn't happen.
Oh well, just have to keep thinking about how nice it will be to be all shiney and smooth when I finally get it back.
One week sounds pretty quick to me too....Unless you are going to be there like 15+ hours per day to help out. Body work, welding holes, flaring fenders, strip paint and prime and paint.....more power to you to get it done Trekkor.

KT, can you also list the tools/materials you're using along the way?
It will help others that plan to paint their cars....

Which one? There's two.
I met my goals today.
I finished all the metal work, stretched the fenders and the 225's are on

So how did you do the flares? Pie cut with more metal added in, along the top edge?

Here's how I stretched the fenders to the limit.
Port-a-Power!
I cut a 2x4 with the same profile of the inside of the fender and used hydrolic power to bring the fender lip to 11.25" from the inner fender well.
Check this out.
Aaron Cox
Jan 20 2006, 10:18 PM
how much did the inner fender deflect?
neat idea.
Lou W
Jan 20 2006, 10:21 PM
Do you heat the fenders as you stretch them?
Trekkor
Jan 20 2006, 10:22 PM
I put a 4x8 along the length of the inner. It didn't seem to deflect at all.
Also hammer and dollied the fender lip flat.

I was very happy with the results. One of the fasteners that connects to the rocker panel made a pop noise!
It shouldn't need to much hammer work at all. The profile looks pretty natural to me.
No heat used.

I filled the channels between the front fenders and the flat section below the winshield.
Heres the channel and antenna hole prepped.

Grille below windshield hammered lower and prepped.
Yes, Randal, that roof will really add a nice touch to the car. Thanks again!

Side markers are also done and I took my welder back home tonight. I finished it all today
Also, the filled channels have 1/8" steel rod stock hammered into the slot just below the surface. I welded each side of the gap to the rod.
Monday will be a Bondo fest.

I am glad Randal is doing such a total rebuild of his entire car along with the motor and I am sure that you (Trekkor) are too.
