Full Version: Stock rear springs - how stiff?

I always see mention of 140# and 180# rear springs. I don't see any rear springs mentioned on Pelican's website. As a mental calibration, how stiff were stock 914/6 springs when new? Are stock springs fine for the street (assuming they aren't worn out)?

Thx,

agree.gif I was going to say about 85#s
The street springs that Weltmeister has are about 100#s

Click to view attachmentWe have bilsteins with adjustable spring perches and 450# springs. Nice for setting ride height and not too stiff on the track. We are not using rear anti-sway bar.

I believe the spring rates are 60-80lbs. They are differentiated by paint marks on the springs.

I really haven't seen a definitive answer on this and I wondered too when I had my -6.

The one I've heard the most is 90lbs for a -6.

Anyone (of our curators) have the answer... I mean, "the" answer?

Here is what the factory has to say about the stock springs for the 4cyl and the 6cyl

4cyl is on the left side 6 on the right.

There has to be some math that can be done to figure out the rates?

Mueller
I'm too lazy/tired to figure it out...but if you find a spring calculator, plug in the numbers from the column on the far right for /6 springs (factory manual)
(/4 springs on left column)
