I heard there was a very good "product" to use to repair your tailight lens when it cracks. Mine has cracked along the seam between the clear and the red sections. What do you guys think is the best to fix this?

I went to my FLAPS and they suggested superglue. Before I try to "glue" it back together, I wanted to get some ideas from anyone who has done this before. What about epoxy? Any other product that should be considered?

super glue drys clear. Put it on from the backside of the lens and then turn it over to let the excess drip down on to a piece of paper towel.

But superglue will out gas and leave a white power on the lens. You can rub it off but it will come back (well, it may eventually stop). If the lenses can be melted w/ a nitro-tolulene based plastic glue (same stuff you use to put model cars together), it would be a far better choice. Its designed to actually melt the plastic and fuse them together (if the plastic is a compatible one.) Nylon for example wont chemically melt and is impossible to glue together...

SMD

SMD, are the sun visor clips made of nylon? I need to repair one and am looking for a glue, super glue does not work.

I had a tail light lens somehow end up on the floor and of course somehow ended up getting stepped on .

Super glued it.. Worked okay, got that white residue on it. Doesn't look horrible though.

2-part Epoxy

Thanks Eric. I was thinking the two part epoxy as well. I seem to remember different "formulas" at my FLAPS. Is there any particualr brand or "mix" you recomend?

There's 5 minute stuff but I like the good old variety that should probably cure 24 hours. They seem to work better. I think the hardening agents in the quicky stuff make them more brittle.

Glue them up and stick them on thop the fridge with the dust bunnies.
