So the correct way is with the VW logo upside down. WHY?
They look the same to me. What am I missing.
(I know your asking yourself, this guy has owned his 914 for 27 years and he doesn't know this? Whatadipshit

So the correct way is with the VW logo upside down. WHY?
Some people say they are less likely to leak when the logo is upside-down. I think it is an urban legend. Due to warpage, use, and old age, some valve covers might be more likely to leak in one orientation than the other. So if yours are not leaking, keep the same orientation. If they leak, flip them around and see if it is better. But theoretically, they should work the same either way.

When you flush a toilet in Aussyland does it rotate in the other direction?

If you car understeers here will it oversteer down there?
SLITS
Jun 2 2006, 12:14 PM
Yes
And you need to mount roller skates on the Targa Bar and front hood because, as you know, you will be upside down, but your valve covers will display the VW logo correctly and won't leak.

Actually, a toilet is the wrong thing to cite, because the water is directed by jets, and might not necessarily be anti-cyclonic. Now that the levity is over with, back to the serious discussion! The Cap'n

Maybe I should buy a rusted out tub down there?
SLITS
Jun 2 2006, 01:07 PM
it would reverse the rusting process. As we all know rust falls to the bottom, so if you are in Aussieland, rust would indeed rise and implant itself back on the metal here....so shipping a rust bucket to Aussieland would give a net result in a rust free tub in the USA.
Only engineers are gay in Aussieland....especially C.E.s 'cause when they're standing up their head rises to their ass.

Back to the original question, I'd think the logo should be right side up, so the oil is held in by the V and the W. If it's upside down, it will just fall out.
Perhaps the reason it works as that the V and the W are actually arrows that need to point up, directing the oil the correct way.
