I will still be a possible...I have to work in the am. I should be done around noon. which means that I could be a little late....its still on my to do list though...
VaccaRabite
I just got down graded to doubtful. I am going to need to work one day this weekend, and with Erin's sister and brother in law comming Saturday I'll probably have to put my nose in a computer's monitor Sunday.

Zach

Herb there always has to be someone fashionably late so I guess you are the designated party.LOL I moved you to the definite list. Zach if at all possible I hope you could be there but I understand other commitments.

Thanks! I did find a rear lock, but that won't be here in time. So I can spend my time ripping out the ugly Motorola radio and the amp in the trunk and replace it with a Becker Mexico that came in a small box of parts the seller gave me... smile.gif

grasshopper
yep, sorry but I'm not going to make it sad.gif I guess I wont see the NE 914 contingent until next summer...I'm heading back down to georgia next week...
VaccaRabite
I hate to be so wishy washy. Don't completely count me out, but its going to have to be a game time choice for me. Yesterday was very productive and I got a ton done. We will see what happenes today.

This sounds like a fun group, I live in Prince Frederick Md . I got something planned sunday.{My webbers are gummed up on my 74 2.0.} I wouldn't mind meeting some local 914 folks in the future.I have the disease pretty bad, my wife made me stop at a 6 pack.71 V8 project,73 1.7 running resto project,1974 driver,1974 2.0 roller w/ metal GT flares,1974 parts stripper,1973 rusty but complete 2.0.Don't ask" WHY ",I don't know ,one day there were six.?????
Dr Evil
Hey Man,
You should stop by and say hi anyway. We are always glad to meet new folks. Nice collection biggrin.gif

I'm stoked for this. Still pretty new at the 914 thing myself. I've got a 71 that's now forsale, and will get my second - a 74 tonight. I've got a few things to do to the 74 before she's right. Anyone know why hot air would come out all the time, reguardless of the heater position ;-)

I'm pretty local - are there any tools that we need? I've got some air tools, jack stands, cheapo welder, breaker bars, etc.
It's possible the heater boxes are stuck, the cables are not working or broken,or out of adj. I personally take my hoses off in summer and cap the tubes coming into the longs to keep out heat from the engine compartment.
ws91420
This time Sunday night I should have the smoothest shift trans back in Fredericksburg driving.gif burnout.gif

and a question....

anyone at this gathering know how to weld? and will a welder be available?

the welding i tried before did not work. the dog ear broke again today.

given my lack of skills, i returned my welder in frustration. ya, probably an error.

but, i have ground off my splatter welds and have the stub pipe ready for someone who knows what they are doing.

if someone can help me with welding tomorrow, i will try to be there. if not, i have found another probable source of help but in the other direction.

cheers,

scott
grasshopper
its a magnesium case right?? I dont think that just a regular welder would work on that application. You would also need a TIG. The case is way to thick to weld with a MIG. BTW, I have an empty sideshift case if you want it scott.

Sorry no welder available. My Dad was a mechanic but never had a welder.
Dr Evil
Ya Scott, you need to be more clear. Dog ear = suspention, transmission, golf, exhaust.

He is referring to his exhaust manifold if I am not mistaken.

Welby, PM me your cell so I can call you biggrin.gif
scottb
need help welding a dog ear on my exhaust stub pipe.

i did mention stub pipe in my message but i understand the confusion.

O.K. Scott I'll bite on the welding question.
I've got a brand new Miller Dynasty 200 tig welder.
I can weld alum, stainless, or mild steel.
Problem is it takes at least 30 amps at 120 volts to power it.
Not many residential homes are set up with 30 amp connects.

Anyway, my welder is set up powered and ready at my shop in Sterling, VA about 20 minutes from tomorrow's tranny insertion event. If you want to weld up something bring it with you and I can prolly help you out. Just let me know we can swing by my shop after grill time and weld till your heart is content. welder.gif
Dr Evil
Take him up on it!

OK guys and gal I'm at my Mom's getting ready for the Dr. PT has assumed the natural resting place of 914's on jackstands. I only have (cough cough) dialup here at my Moms so this will probably be my only post from here till much later after the days events. (took a couple minutes for the posting window to open shoulda used quick reply plus its a MAC) Give a call if you get lost and either we will send out an escort or talk you in.
scottb
have fun everyone.....

kids are in trouble, wife is mad and i have a pile of shite to do today.

hmmmm..... maybe i can just jb weld that dog ear back on? (just kidding)
crash914
yep I just got out of work. won't make it today...

bummer I would like to meet everyone and swap BS....

Scott, I am no expert welder, but the offer still stands, come on by and you are welcome to use my MIG...my welds are ugly, but they usually stick...

OK today was somewhat of a success. Transmission is in but not drivable now. I'm missing the front shift bushing on the shift rod. DOH!!!!!! Stopped by a 4 dollar part so I'm told.

A few thanks to go out

Dr Evil and Noel for coming down from Hershey and the service that the good Dr provides.

Terry for allowing my fiance's son to climb in and out of his car numerous times and spending time with him and making him feel like one of the boys.

Root for coming out and the offer of one of the parts I need.

Bob for the CV gaskets I will get some as soon as I can to repay you.

Jens just for coming up to meet and a welcome.png

And the biggest thankds goes to my Mom and fiance for fixing the meal.

A quick thanks to everyone who made this happen. It was good to meet my first group of 914 people just a couple weeks after buying mine. We need to do this again soon, even without a transmission install wink.gif
Dr Evil
Hey all, what a great time.

First I would like to whole heartedly thank your mom, Welby. She was way cool and very nice to put up with us. A real sweetheart.

The brats were outstanding so thanks to the future Mrs Sowers biggrin.gif

I wish you all lived closer as not a single one of you sucked!

Terry, very cool, very patient and a real help to have around.

Bob, please post. This guy was way cool, had a LOT of 914 knowledge and was willing to share it. He had some pieces that we needed on hand as well. And, he has owned his 914 since he was 19 (a while, but not ancient wink.gif ). It was way cool to meet and talk with you.

Rod, as always a pleasure. I hope we can work out the transmission wrack for the back of my motorcycle so I can make deliveries and save gas money biggrin.gif

Jens, you are the coolest Canadian (or was it Swede?) that I have ever met tongue.gif JK, you were a blast to hang out with and you dished and took a lot of shit. Good job!

Of course Welby, it was cool hanging with you and working on your car. Dont worry man, it will soon be moving on its own and costing you more in unforseen parts issues biggrin.gif thumb3d.gif

Noel had a great time as well and thought that you were all a great bunch of people. I told you she had bad taste (hey, she is with me afterall).

Scott, you were missed. Sorry to hear of your domestic problems. but that is what you get for having unprotected sex!

I hope that too much time does not pass before we get to see all of the group again. Next party is at Matt's house for his engine install (if he ever gets done with vacation....man I want his job).
grasshopper
you all suck sad.gif I guess I will see you guys again next June...
