Have just been told by mechanic who checked compression on my "73 1.7 that results are as follows:
#1 100 psi
#2 120 psi
#3 120 psi
#4 150 psi
He is recommeneding valve job. I know the readings are all over the place, but is this guy correct?
Car was in for valve adjustment, had a small miss around 2800 RPM, and backfired when decell. Timing and fuel mixture were adjusted. BAckfire almost gone.
I noticed during last oil change some black soot on the head around the exhaust pipe on the left front cylinder. I suspect this is a small exhaust leak. Would this have any bearing on the compression reading for that cylinder?
I would appreciate any and all thoughts on this.
Don't want to put out the bucks right now for valve job, but may have to if that is the cure.
Thanks for listening!
