im putting together a 73 engine running stock d-jet (i dont know the year)

i dont have a head temp sensor

pelican has 2

one for all models but the 73 2.0
and one for the 73 2.0

my question is does the temp sensor need to fit the heads or the FI system?
i.e. does the sensor vary depending on the year of the FI system or the head which the sensor is going to be installed in?

I had this problem. Do not mix the sensors from 73 to 74. There was a big difference. The 73 needs to have a balast resistor in series and the correct ECu and MPS. The 74 uses no ballast resistor. Check with Anders guide. There is a chart showing the correct mix.

I see the confusion. The first one sounds wrong. Check with Paul Anders site

He shows 0280 130 003 for the 1973 1.7 2.0
0280 130 012 for the 1974 2.0

AZautohouse.com has them (at least on their site). I did get one from them a year ago.

The sensor goes with the rest of the EFI, not the engine. If the MPS and ECU are 73, then get the 73 version of the HTS. And the resistor--I think it's 240 ohms?

shaggy, check out the part # on the ECU box and look at Brad Anders FI list. That should tell you what year it is. There are other clues too, for example if the FI came with a dizzy and it has the advance port plugged, it is most likely from a 74 2.0. You should be able to piece together what you have by writing down the part #s and comparing them to Brad's list.

PS: I agree with Dave, you match the head sensor to the FI.

You need to ensure that your ECU, MPS and TS2 (head temp sensor) are all the correct part #s for *a* d-jet setup. It doesn't really matter if you ran '74 components on the '73 engine, just don't run a 73 ECU and MPS with a 74 TS2.

As mentioned, Brad Anders' site lists the part # for the specific years.
