windows boots up, but most icons don't appear correctly and when yu go to control panel most apps don't work....remove software etc... got on the internet vis a yahoo tool bar that should not be there!!! tried to load some new fixit software and it would not install???? Download windows stuff from the internet and then it doesnt know what applictaion to use?? Tried all my old tricks....????

Use CTL+ALT+DEL to bring up the task manager.
Start a new application of Iexplore.exe.
Go to www.trendmicro.com/housecall.

Run the online virus, malware, and spyware scan.


Or just run msconfig.exe and shut off all but the basic applications. Then reboot and it will allow you to manually run your virus scanner.

Use System Restore and restore it back to a date that you know the computer to be working as it should.

Start > Programs > Aceesories > System Tools > System Restore

Use the calendar to choose the date you want, click OK--it will restore files and reboot.
