Any ideas? I know they're Solex - anyone used these successfully?

I'd like to use them just to get the car moving under it's own power...

Well, they say "SOLEX" on them--clearly visible on the right side of that second picture. What does it say under that? I can't make it out... If you can read that, you'll have a pretty good idea of what size/config Solex it is.

At a guess: 36 PDSIT (Bus carbs) or 40 PDSIT (Type IV or European 1.8 914 carbs). That's a real wild guess, though, because I've never seen those in person. They are, however, single-throat Solexes, just like the two I mentioned were...

I have seen a set of Bus carbs in person... and they are a POS... Ask Cap'n Crusty about them...

The throttle shafts wear badly and then they wont' run for shit....

I would look at FI or a set of Webers before running these.
