Full Version: Birthday Present for Brad

Britain Smith
There is a place here in Santa Clara that has Aluminum 3000lb floor jacks for $100. Since Brad is getting a new shop with more space, he will need some new floor jacks to be able to work on more cars at the same time.

So far, I have 7 people who have committed to pitching in...one of which has already made a contribution of $20. Let see if we can get a few more people who would be willing to pitch in to reduce the cost for all (power in numbers).

If we can get more than just a few people pitching in then maybe we can get him two aluminum floor jacks or some jack stands or something else he might need for his new shop. Just think, every time you get you car worked on by Brad or just buying parts from him your contribution will have helped him out.

Anyway, either send me a private message or post something here if you would like to contribute. You can send some money to my paypal account (britain@britainsmith.com).

You should also check out the auctions I have up, these are Brad's parts also to contribute to the new shop fund.

Britain,

Can you do me a favor? If I send you the money, can you pick up a 12-pack of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and give it to Brad for his birthday? A jack is nice too, but I think Brad should get something he can really enjoy.
John Kelly
I'll do $20 by paypal.

A couple of other people asked me what I wanted for my B-day and I responded:

A couple of hits of Viagra and the Coors twins.

The floorjack will work.

Thanks Paul for the Sierra Nevada thought. Lately we have been cheap and drinking Corona's.

It's really fun being involved with such a big group. This past year has had some serious high's and some serious lows.

Just an FYI....Kragen has "Powerbuilt" Aluminum floor jacks AND Aluminum jack stands...the whole set is $179.

Take the $40.00 that B owes me for the CAMP 914 rear trunk shox kit and put it towards the B BDAY fund drive.

As we get older.. lugging around the heavy jacks at the track sucks.

That's a cool looking jack. A couple of years ago at Daytona I was going to buy one of these fast action racing jacks. I talked to the salesman for a while. I told him I wanted to use it in my shop. He told me that was not a good idea. These jacks need a rebuild almost every year, because of the ratio six pumps to full lift. Also, it is very hard to jack something up just a fraction of an inch or so when installing something, again, because of the ratio. They are really made for one purpose and not a good shop jack. But, if that's what he wants, cool, it his birthday. smilie_pokal.gif

This one is geared more for shop use. You also have to factor in: I really only deal with 2000lb 914's and not 3500lb Winston Cup cars (that was last year).. so.. it should be fine with the little cars. I typically have to buy a new jack once a year anyway. None of them last.

I'm down with the sickness... $5 on the way. Thanks Brad for supporting this site clap56.gif

Alright everyone...if you said that you are going to contribute to the Brad's B-day fund, please send your desired amount to my paypal address:

britain@britainsmith.com

or send it snail mail to the address in one of the above posts. Once we determine how much we have in total, we can determine which aluminum floor jack and where to get it. I will leave the contribution giving campaign going on till Monday morning...and then go get it then and take it to Brad.

Everyone pitch in...thanks to those who already have.

Who knows.. one day it could be your car on the side of the road that I use the jack on...LOL

B << bailed out a few people on the side of the road.
Britain Smith
Alright...as of right now, we around just below $100. I will leave the phonelines open till Monday and give contribution updates along the way. If we can double out current goal, we can throw in some aluminum floor stands or get another aluminum floor jack...or any other tools that Brad might need.

In other words...GIVE THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING...or in this case, give a gift to Brad so he keeps giving his technical expertise to all of us...keep the 914 vision alive.

B

Yeh, Ok. What's L's favorite... er.. beverege? I'm happy to convert my beverege committment in an appropriate manner. 'Course I can't fix the acoustic resonance -- that may be related to the environment she lives in... < whack > I mean, I'm happy to help < whack > whatever. laugh.gif

Edit: this software hoses anything around "<"'s or ">"s.

Edit 2: < whack >

Y'all are confused. This is a "Brad Bday Consortium." L is in integral part of that. The rest of y'all (awake or not smile.gif) have work your own deal. laugh.gif

Well...I must say...Brad is going to have a great Birthday. We will go through the shop and determine what else is needed as he migrates to the new shop. So far we have enough for one of those aluminum floor jacks and a set of jack stands.

Again, I will leave the paypal lines open until Monday so if anyone else fills feastive and wants to contribute to Brads b-day then send your contributions to my paypal account...britain@britainsmith.com

You guys are awesome and it is amazing when 15-20 people are willing to contribute $5-$10-$20 and even one person contributing $45 it really adds up. For those who contributed, and even the rest of you...I am sure that Brad is thankful for every bit of it. I know he really enjoys keeping the 914 faith and helping out each and every one of you.

Keep the contributions coming...
Britain

so, when IS his birthday ??? confused24.gif
Brad Roberts
Monday the 24th.

B
Britain Smith
It is Monday...
Britain Smith
Alright everyone...last call.

Brads b-day is tomorrow and I will going to get him an aluminum floor jack. We built him a huge new set of shelves yesterday to store all the engines, engine tin, trannies, etc. during the multiple engine rebuilds he is working on...it definitely cleared up some space in the shop. That used part of the birthday funds, but we have still have enough for the aluminum floor jack.

If a few more people contribute, we should have enough to also get a set of aluminum jack stands. I will add up the totals tomorrow morning and go out and purchase what I can. I will take pictures of everything that I get for Brad and we all can wish him HAPPY BIRTHDAY tomorrow.

It is pretty amazing how far this club site has come on the past year, Brad appreciates each and every one of you and your contributes to the site.
