914 with steel flares (AA GT copies). Not installed yet so have room for metal negotiation during the install. Already a 5 lugger.

Obvious a few variables such as ride height to take into consideration.
What is the widest wheel combination that can be used? 7x15 front and 8x15 rear seems to be the common yet dated and am trying to get away from those size's.

What about 17 inch wheels with a lower profile tire? Anyone ever run 7.5X17 in front and 9x17 in the rear? Would like to use 16 or preferably 17 inches wheels due to tire options available .What are some of the back space measurements you guys have used?

Looking for feedback and idea's. Have not decied on wheels yet.
Like the Rota Fox's and the price is right. Also considering used factory Fuchs as an option but I am unsure of backspace/offsets for the 914. Not worried about rubber robbing HP since a fat six is pushing.

On my fiberglass flares I can get 9s on the rear. I could get 9s in the front too, but I have 8s all the way around for the time being. If you add some extra metal in there you can get 10s, and the 16x10s are perfect for 914s

15, 16, 17, 18...they all fit. You just need a tire with a shorter sidewall. Of course this has inherent reprocussions. (firmer ride etc)

It's the wheel width and offset that are the majic numbers you need to find. I plan on using 8" all around with my flares as a general statement...it will accept many tires from 215 to 245 width safely. A 9" rim can accept from 235 to 275.

I think the standard 911 offset works too...I like the classic look so 16x8 Fuchs with 245/45R16 will be the fittment on my 914. I use the same size all around as I can rotate to maximize tire life.

15" look good too, but 15" performance rubber is becoming more scarce....Not all tire companies make all sizes, so you may wish to go 17" as these sizes are more popular nowadays. a comparible size would be 245/40R17....

pick what you like there are many options.

I almost started a thread like this yesterday. I was looking for similar info. I too was thinking of getting 17s. I wish I could visuallize what it all would look like. Can people out there post some pics if you have 17s? I think 16s may be big enough for me but I'll have fewer choices in tires and from what I've found tires for 16s are pretty expensive becasue so few people have/want them. Any pics of cars with 16s or 17s with flares are appreciated.

agree.gif That does look great! And that's just what I was thinking. A non-chrome, 5 spoke wheel. Because your car is black and the tires are black and in the shade, I'm not seeing the contrast between wheel and fender. I'd like to request more pics in the sun too.

I had 8 and 9x16 fuchs on my fiberglass flared car. plenty or room. I think 245/45 on the rear. I forget what I had on the front.

Finally got the Mallory install done and had a chance to take a pic with one of my new ATP SPA 18X8.5" bolted to the front. No rubbing issues yet, and I want to space them out about another .25-.50" after I get the 911 suspension bolted in. I have 18X10" with 285/30/18's for the rear--it's going to be TIGHT. I actually bought these already powder coated in blue--too bad it doesn't match, I'd leave them. The final plan calls for black centers with colored centercaps. LMK what ya'll think!!

These are 8" x 17 with 235 on all 4. Previously I had 7 x205x17 on it. Now doing bolt on flares, with 9x255x17 on all 4.

Here’s an old post, going back to 2012, but most of the links still work, all here on the World.

From 2012 when a bunch of us got flares, the first link has a large list of project links.

Here’s a great post I used for referance when installing mine. Lots of links.

Great post on install links

Heres mine, i reshaped the bottom of each flare, after alining the top center to the car.
(if i did it again the only thing I would change, frt's 1/2" more foward) Running 9x16 on all 4 corners. Messure 10 times, and cut 1 time. I fit and welded mine before I had the wheels and tires. I focused strongly on the size of the tire space being equal, and distance from the hubs, using all of the flare, not just the outer look. Welded all 4 on.

Then I got the wheel and tire size to fill the rear space. buying the rear set first, using them to check turning clearance on the front. The 9" fit! Got 2 more.

Some say fit the flare to the wheel and tire. Using the tire as the guide, this will work also as a starting point. If you know the wheel and tire size you want to use. That was my biggest question.

And one more link with lots of pictures :

And,
My 73 Michigan Build, wheels 9x16, 245/50-16 tires on all 4 corners.

They all look really nice...But this is striking.

@woobn8r is correct..... Any discussion of wheel/tire combos needs to address wheel width, offset and certainly spacers (as appropriate). Otherwise the info and pics are of a very limited value to anyone looking to mimic the look/clearance..
