Can anyone confirm that this is the case? I'm pretty sure the '74s went off last year.

that's my understanding of it. 
Yep, they sure are. 29 years plus this year= smog exempt. I just registered my 74 in march of 03 and it was exempt.
Yes they should be but it would be nice to have someone post an "I've done it" reply.

That's what I was hoping for. (As I tear off the smog gear on the '75)
I have just received Renewal Notice for my 1975 and no Smog is required, California car.
No smog for 75's. Got the notice from Ca.Gov last week. This is great news.
