With at little luck i should be getting my first Porsche 914 next weekend. Does anyone have a picture og a decription of where the Vin nr is? So i dont have to use alot of time looking for it to match it with the registration slip, when it is delivered.

There's a VIN tag behind the windshield, on the driver side. It's easily swapped, however, so if that concerns you, you can compare it to the various stampings throughout the car, including the front trunk. Also, on the driver door jamb, you'll see a sticker with VIN #.

There are differences between the years and location, so i'll try to cover them all here:


All 914s should have the VIN stamped on top of the passenger side fender well, under the front hood:



'70 - '74 have a VIN plate riveted to the passenger side headlight bucket:



'75 VIN plate riveted to the front firewall:



VIN tag on the drivers side windshield pillar (USA only):




- '76 cars do not have a rivetet VIN tag in the front trunk!

- 914-6: The VIN starts with "914" and the next number indicates the year. 0=70, 1=71, 2=72

- 914-4: The VIN starts with "47" and the next number indicates the year. 0=70, 1=71, 2=72 etc., up until 6=76

A how to find your VIN article needs to go in the Classics... Maybe you want to rewrite this for that purpose?

Any member could write up a great how-to article to achieve that purpose. Andy doesn't have to do it.

Is there a good place to find parts for it, besides ebay, i live i Europe. But us dealers would also do. Even though the car it in ok shape, there is stil a few things i need.

First of all
This board is probably the best resorse for used parts. Try the classified here first. Pelican Parts would be my second choise. Oh and welcome to the maddness.
Oh I hate to do this but Starman may have a little problem with the vin on the fender well if the looks and see it on the passenger side and not on the driverside as you can see from Andy's posted photo it is on the passenger side. Sorry Andy.

Yes, the stamped VIN is on the passenger side fender.
