What the Carbs? I got them probably 5 years ago, they were on a race car for about an hour before the guy decided to switch confused24.gif . I'm hopeing they are 46's as that is what i need. I'm going to open them up tomorrow and see.

My Engine Bill so far on this 2.8 Twin-Plug is $11K

now that's interesting ... other cars with body numbers in this range (1315xx) have significant lower VINs (91404314xx and 91404315xx)
but that's not really unusual, as we know biggrin.gif

What the Carbs?

Oops...yeah, didn't get the pic quoted. You can always click on the little red arrow next to the quote header to view the post that's being quoted...not sure if everyone knows about that or not. I meant to include the pic though, oh well.

46s huh, nice! Are they Webbers?
carr914
Alas, I believe they are 40's, which means I need to send them off to be made to 46's or sell them and buy a set of PMO's

did you build up a 2.8ss off a 3.0 block or is it a 2.8 from a mag block?
carr914
The 2.8 is being built up out of a early Sand-Cast Aluminum 2.0 Case. It has Case Oil mods, case squirters, alignment sleeves and bored spigots for the 2.8 barrels. The Pistons & Cylinders are Factory pieces, 2.7 Crank, Elgin 310/296 Grind Cams, 3.2 Oil Pump, 2.7 Heads machined for Twin-Plug, later 4 bearing cam towers.

My engine guy will only build race motors (his specialty) on Aluminum cases as the Mag cases tend to crack under extreme pressure due to their age. Nothing wrong with a Mag case for the street, but when my guy builds a $30 to 50K, he doesn't want it to come apart due to something he can't control. The Aluminum case weighs a lot more, but it's strength is worth it.

I saw PMO, itself, is for sale at $500k...maybe go that route? biggrin.gif

I better buy a set of PMO's quick, before a new owner runs another company into the ground.

Actually this is not true. I remember discussing this with Henry at Supertec when he was building my engine. He actually weighed the two while I was on the phone with him and it was less than 20 lbs difference. I don't recall the exact figure, but, it was much less than the "end of the world" weight addition everyone thinks.

OK, maybe it is true...that only depends on your definition of "alot more"

Well, since you can easily pick up a Mag Case with one hand, I would think an extra 20 pounds would be "alot"

T.C.,
Let me know if you want to sell those manifolds? If they are for 40mm carbs, I'd be interested.
Thanks,
Dominic

Zimms, here's the source. It's 100% Cotton and Euro sizes must run smaller - order at least 1 size bigger than you would normally wear, I wish I had ordered 2 sizes bigger

These were 40's. I kept the tall manifolds to use on 914-6 #673 and sold the carbs to a Navy serviceman stationed in Japan. As soon as his money arrives I will be ordering a set of PMO 46's, they have a set ready for me biggrin.gif .

1st of all, it's hot as Hell, so it's tough to get work done. It doesn't matter how many fans you've got blowing, it's just swirling the hot air around.

But I did get the gas tank pulled and more paint stripped.

If you're planning to track the car, you might want to reconsider.

Many organizations (including vintage racing) require a cutoff switch on the outside these days.
