Since I'm not always gutting out a 914 I have no idea where those parts go. Top, middle, bottom...what do they replace (or are they meant to strengthen?)?

They go inside the cabin along the longs and rear firewall. I think I might be a guinea pig for these...we'll see (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

IIRC Brad said that the inner longs are the target for any strengthening. So these just weld on like the rear trailing arm box kit.
I would like to see a pic of the maschinen that lasers this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cool.gif)

M,
These are great. They will certainly save alot of time and considerable hair pulling on my part.

I do have one question...couldn't there be a lip on the bottom to weld the floorpan to?

Again, great job....

Very nice. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

I'm interested in a set for the future resto. Keep us posted on the installation and the marketing plan. The price sounds good at $190.

Now to follow through on the welding class at the local vo-tech! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Sorry no new pics today - my 13 yr old dauhgter had a sleepover and no much sleep last nite. Hope to do some work tomorrow.

The lip can be added - probably add about $25 to the cost - may be an option? So far the form factor is good - nice and tight before welding. Not sure how much variance there is body to body. But these are tight inbetween the rear and front footwell.

I will have Brads set out to him on Monday he should see it Wed or Thur at the latest.

I thought about having you go to the floorpans. What I'm afraid of is people trying to weld to a less than perfect floor pan. It is VERY easy to burn through weak floorpans. These will have to be stitched into place every 2 inches or so.

My street driven V8 cars RIP the chassis apart (ones without cages) right where the hand recess is for the Ebrake handle. It start with a *star* pattern and move out in lines from there. This will eliminate that and look much better than the 400lbs of steel the BM kit adds to the outside of the frame rails (which is truelly just a cover for the actual frame rail.)

Cant wait.

It would seem like the stress on the chassis from a V-8 powered car would be different than the stress from a stiff suspension/sticky tires. The V-8 torque would place longitudinal (sp?) stress on the chassis while hard cornering would place torsional stress on it (especially on switchbacks).
It would seem that some type of X-brace welded between the longitudinals would add strength directly in line with the twisting forces that hard cornering would impose on the car (either the Honda S2000 or the new MR2 Spder has one similar to what I am talking about on the underside of the car). Obviously, that would be much harder to fabricate and weld to the car. Maybe that is why nobody has made one?

My V8 reference was an extreme case. My point was: the cars are VERY weak directly below the top edge of the windshield on the frame rails (both sides). This is where the car flexes front to back and side to side. His laser cut pieces should just about do away with this. The V8 torque magnify's this problem.

Basically drop a plumb from the top of the windshield hoop straight down and draw a line across the car....

How thick (gauge) are the steel pieces and how much do they weigh?
I like the thought of these and they look nice and easy to weld in (IMG:style_emoticons/default/welder.gif)
