Man, I was out in the garage actually working on my car and I missed this entire thread...
I just graduated with my MS degree in Chemical Engineering from UT Austin. I now live in the Bay Area and work for Intel making the processors that run your computers (P4's). I make little, tiny copper metal lines that are ~100nm wide (~1/1000th of a human hair)...nanotechnology. Actually, when I was in grad school I made some 13nm features...that is about 50 atoms across. This is a picture of some features I printed in Grad school...they are about 40 nanometers wide. The little specs on the surface are actual Gold particules that we sputter on the surface to allow us to look at them in the scanning electron microscope. The outside lines are falling over due to Vander Waals forces...moisture trapped in between the lines cause the lines to fall over after being taken out of the liquid nitrogen when we cleave the wafers. Anyway, I have a bunch of cool pictures of transistors and stuff if anyone is interested in seeing how your computer works... -Britain Attached image(s) |
