Although I agree that the six market is currently flat ( as is the high end 911 market), it does appear to be at least very healthy.
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-porsche-914-6-21/ I have not looked critically at the pictures of this car, but it looks really nice and has exceptional documentation Let’s see where it goes |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Pete, appears the non-original mods to the engine have hurt the value by nothing,I noted the things you pointed out,as a seller I would ditch the rainhats and put a decent air cleaner such as the original supplied with the car, factory air cleaners are very efficient.
Final price will be interesting (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) . |

So I see zero downside to engine mods so long as the engine is built on its original case, the mods are "invisible," and no external oil cooler is required. That makes for a pretty narrow band up to 2.2 S to meet those conditions, but there are a number of nice engines in that range. 2.0 S with short gears, 2.2 E or T (or, for that matter, 2.4T or E?), and 2.2 S. 2.2 S with Solex cams is a great setup, very close to what I have. The Solex cams sacrifice some of the top-end scream for a really nice torque curve—which makes the engine feel a lot bigger than a 2.2. More like a 2.7 or 3.0, bizarrely. Do miss that top-end scream, however… I love how it always ends up that the transmission was ignored, or at least not barely mentioned, "Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle" and that is it. Seems everyone only cares about the engine, but not how the power gets to the ground. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif) At least the gear box is clean. Nice car, and I grew up mostly in La Mesa and live a few hours from Findlay. Small world. ^ Too true. People talk about engines endlessly, but the standout feature of the best 914 I have ever driven—from a fun-factor perspective—wasn't its engine...it was its 901 with short gears and LSD. https://bringatrailer.com/2011/11/21/bat-ex...-porsche-914-6/ That gearbox was brilliant on back roads, and I hope to replicate it one day. Wish I knew which gears it had. 71 style naugahyde instead of the german pebble grain. PLUS all upper dash vinyl grains were the same, the smooth 911 style. This cars upper dash is 71 naugahyde So '71 914-6s had this pattern on their vinyl? Reminds me of the vinyl on my Scheel seats, which I don't love but don't hate. Just looks odd to me everywhere... |

Its in the post you listed, " The transmission was rebuilt by Bernie Buschen (Seattle area Porsche expert) with custom short gears (A, F, Ka, Q, X) and a GT torsion limited slip differential. Ive done some of these, not hard. Easier and actually standard gearing in many boxes ia A, F, M, S, X for short gears. X suuuucks on the freeway. |

Note sure how I missed that...and yes, the one gear I would not want to change is my stock 5th, as I'd like to have something for freeway hauls. I suppose that will make the gap to fourth not great, but I can live with that. Again, thanks! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) |
