Yeehaa, i finally got a Quaife (Dave at GPR is great!) and now its again gearbox time.
This seasons saldo was 3 final drive's and 5cv's, so i'am running out of spare parts, still one set of fd though. Does anyone have picture and/or dimensions of the special mandrel P258? Could also buy one if someone have extra to sell. I need to adjust my final drive. I might still need to do the job without proper tools (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) any ideas for that? In theory you should not have to measure the Pinon depth. Just use the same thikness gaskets between the case and the intermediate. You can verify the proper depth by white grease on the ring gear, torquing everthing up and rotating the Pinon shaft. Take the Diff Cover off and verify the grease is rubbed of the center of the teeth. If not you then have to change gasket thickness.
BUT the big thing you have to do when putting in the new differental is: 1. Be sure the bolts that hold the ring gear to the Diff are long enough. I do not know about the Quaif, but the ZF requires longer bolts. 2. You have to set the Diff. Backlash & Pre-load. This is described in the Porsche manuals. 914 & 911 descriptions are the same. Good luck & be patient - I just finished my ZF conversion. Ken |
