Hi,
I have a 997 (this feels like the start of a support group thing) This car has an electric front hood latch. So, the battery needs to be hooked up to open the front hood where the battery is... Its not logical, but Porsche put in a shortcut. So, go to the fuse box inside, pull out a red lead, and hook up a 12VDC battery to this lead, and chassis ground... Hood opens. Instead of using a full size heavy car battery, I went and bought a lithium battery "jump box" thing Schumacher SL1639 Lithium Portable Power Pack and 1000A 12V Jump Starter So, it will not work. We ended up getting a full size battery, with jumpers, just to open the hood, so we could reconnect the battery. My question is...WHY does it not work? When I put my meter on it, I see 16VDC ITs fully charged. Its on. The Tech support told me the unit can only be used for jump starting a car. The mechanic at the shop told me he also had this issue, and the unit needs to see a load?? I will return this if it will never work...but I really need to know why it won't work. I can get a motorcycle battery, or some other unit that will take care of my needs...but this thing should work...yet it does not. Anyone care to explain electricity to me? Rich |

Funny timing
I left the trailer hooked up which kills my cayenne battery. The “Schumacher jumper pack” I bought did nothing. When hooked up it beeped with an error. So I am returning it tomorrow. |

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Huh? So I’m looking on Amazon - 8% 1 and 2 star reviews and not just a couple of them Well that’s bull (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stromberg.gif) Download user manual: JUMP STARTING A VEHICLE ENGINE NOTE: Use model number SA858 jump cable. IMPORTANT: Do not use the jump starter while charging its internal battery. IMPORTANT: Using the jump starter without a battery installed in the vehicle will damage the vehicle’s electrical system. NOTE: The internal battery must have a charge if at least 40% to jump start a vehicle. NOTE: Cold weather may affect the performance of the jump starter’s lithium battery. If you hear only a click and the engine does not turn over, try the following: With the jump starter connected to the car battery and the green LED illuminated on the smart cable, turn on all lights and electrical accessories for one minute. This draws current from the jump starter and warms the battery. Now try to crank the engine. If it does not turn over, repeat the procedure. Extremely cold weather may require two or three battery warmings before the engine will start. I assume you’ve tried this I’ve used plenty of these little jump packs on vehicle batteries at are completely flat. Either the unit isn’t big enough - but it certainly is for a Cayenne or Schumacher is really missing the boat.
