Hi, working away on a refresh of some items on my Bumblebee. One of the items I want to address is the cheap carpet kit it has that has not been installed very well to boot.

I am going to place an order for a kit. The question is which color. I want to go with the German Loop. There is a black, early charcoal and late charcoal.

Which color is the most appropriate for a Bumblebee with a black interior.

@cholland

this is about the best i can find on real early sciroccos.
its in the VW museum classic collection.
don't know if that means it was restored or whether it was retained from the production line when new.
its a 76 MY euro spec. has the early sport steering wheel for upper spec cars.
lower spec had the standard golf/passat type steering wheel.
i can't really turn up anything that nails down a 75 euro model year interior that would have been made in 74 right at the start.
this one has the later "salt and pepper" style 914 carpet.
and --- the 75 had all the tartans, flat basket weave etc from the get go.
the german domestic brochure makes that clear.
what i can never work out is was there a 74 MY scirocco or did they just start making 75 MY cars early in april 74. i think that is what happens. they start german domestic production 3 months before usual.

you have me curious about the plastic tanks on sciroccos.

i did come across some notes on the early plastic tanks that mentioned they were not as vapor impermeable as metal tanks. maybe problems with the EPA and vapor emission control systems? cars outside the USA market did not have the vapor emissions controls that you guys had. though that would not explain the plastic expansion tank on the 914 being USA market acceptable. unless perhaps it worked ok as an expansion tank with fumes but not so good with liquid fuel. golfs/passats in australia were knock down kits from germany.
USA golfs (rabbits) were manufactured in mexico i understand.
