I've been watching Joe O'Brien's progress on the Turtlegirl car, he painted the underside first, before he painted the rest of the body.
The more I thought about doing it that way, the more it made sense, this way I can put the suspension back under it which allow me to roll the car around when I paint the exterior, and it will allow me to make any adjustments to the rear fenders for tire clearance before I put the finish paint on the car. Here's the car back up in the air, I sure wish I had a rotiserie; Attached image(s) ![]() |

I'm shooting it in my garage. It will be shot in sections, I'll shoot the front trunk, gas tank area, engine bay and rear trunk one day, then I'll shoot the body the next, and then shoot the decks and doors after that. I'm going with a solid color, so I shouldn't have to worry about matching the paint like a metallic. I've shot before in the garage and it worked fine, I just put plastic tarps up on the walls, wash the floor down, close the garage door and open the side door and use an exhaust fan. I'm using the new HVLP guns, so overspray is minimal. |
