Hi Bill,
I used to be able to buy sheet metal from the local sheet metal fab shop. You might look around for one near you. The called cold rolled "black steel" for some reason. Another useful place for this kind of information is the forum at: www.metalmeet.com You may be a able to find someone near you who has some small pieces available. If you are filling small holes like trim holes of 1/4" or so, you can thicken up the 22 gage by pounding on the edge over a steel surface, or thin out the 18 gage by pounding it flat over a steel surface.
