Your car is coming out great! I love those 8.5" rear wheels .. How s the performance of it with the 3.2 compared to the Datsun? Those Z cars can be wicked fast...

Hi Jeff,
The Z car is taking a year off to have an engine built. It is getting a 3 liter stroker with MegaSquirt EFI. It should be wicked fast. These two cars are very different animals. Mostly due to my development. For all those years I've owned my 914 with the 4 cylinders, I developed the suspension pretty much as much as I dared with it being a street car. The Z however, has all polyurethane bushings and wicked huge sway bars. The difference is like comparing a ballerina to a running back. The 914 handles like a dream and is so gentle to drive fast. It dives into corners like it was born to it. The Z requires brute inputs and is all noise and sweat. I love them both and surprisingly, my run times are pretty equal in both of them. After the new engine goes into the Z, I'll try and tame the suspension so it is more ballerina and less running back.

That's me in the front and my good friend Bill Madamba chasing. He was filming me and giving me the same kind of demeaning looks for not hitting my lines that McMark gives me... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)

Ok, so since both McMark and Harvey Weidman noticed I was using old pictures, I pulled the top off of her and drove her all day. In the evening, when the shadows were getting long, I remembered, I needed to take some pictures.

Here is a little Rock Park on the Truckee River fun...

I love that sound Jeff. I love that with the stock DME I can reach in, turn the key, start right up, idle like a champ, then get in and have her take off like she was shot from a cannon. That, is a rush! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Thanks Brant... That is pretty much the way it is out here. Turn any direction and it's beautiful. The desert is a special kind of beautiful. Some don't see it but it's as big and empty as most of Colorado...

The 914 looks amazing as does the Z car. I restored several Z cars when I was in college to help pay for my tuition. They were a blast to drive.

I then switched to 914’s after college and have stayed with Porsches ever since.

Fun cars to enjoy!

I had a little problem with the way the front Getty hood fit. These are the GT replica fiberglass hoods with the balsa underframe. When I originally installed them, I discovered that if I put the hood springs on the lowest setting, it wouldn't cause the hood to jump up violently. I thought that it might work. But the sides of the hood stood about 1/4" proud of the fenders. McMark suggested eliminating the springs and going with a prop or? So, I tried it. The fit is now pretty close to perfect. I like it... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

For comparison, this is from that photoshoot a couple weeks back at the Truckee River. Notice the way the hood stands up behind the headlights...

I'm feeling kind of excited! Tomorrow, the car goes in to the body shop for paint on the fiberglass lids and some touch up to the rest of the car. Mostly just spots they missed when it went in for the flare paint. I had them paint both sides completely and it was understood by me and Gilbert (shop owner) that little nicks would be fixed and not just painted over. The word from Gilbert didn't trickle down. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)

This is a busy collision shop and it is kind of cool that they will even work on projects such as this. Even cooler, they get excited about it! When I bring it in, they drop everything and come out to ogle it!
