Flight 41 AZ PCA concours today in Scottsdale. Beautiful weather and several nice 914's. Took my '73 bahia red example. A real 959 was just behind me... think my voltage regulator crapped out on the way home- gauge was pegged. Noticed gauge was jumping around a lot on the way down in the early morning...

Met AZ Banks (from here and rennlist)- nice to put a face to the name!Attached Image Attached Image

Good times today.
Nice to meet you.

I don't know if you've heard from AZ PCA but you won a trophy.
Congrats!

Got her back on the road after some maintenance. Replaced 3 stripped exhaust studs with EZLocks. Replace pushrod tube seals on right side. Adjusted valves (so nice to do this with the heat exchangers removed). Ceramic coated the Bursch exhaust and powder coated the heater pipes. Removed rear valence to show off said ceramic coated exhaust and hopefully help reduce hot air around rear mounted oil cooler. Lowered oil cooler 2” and rerouted oil lines below heat exchangers. Changed transmission oil. All cleaned up and ready for the PHX driving season.

Thought I fried the voltage regulator on the way back from a concours on Saturday. Took the one out of the '71 and tried it in the '73. Seems to be fine now- voltmeter now acting normally...

Sure nice to have a "spare." The replacement should arrive from Pelican on Wednesday.

Something similar in nature - years ago, I ran into an intermittent 'stumbling' in my '71 while on the highway. I thought it was an electrical component or connection going bad, but after testing the components, ohming-out all the wiring, replacing relays, etc, I decided to check the fuses and contacts on the relay board. I found one fuse that had fatigued and cracked real close to the end - barely making contact. When I pulled it out, it fell into two pieces. Replaced the fuse with a new one and it solved the problem. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Replaced all the hard and soft brake lines with new ones from PMBPerformance. Also changed out the 17mm MC to a new 19mm from 914rubber.

And for the final, put on the larger calipers and new drilled rotors I bought from @chi-town a few weeks ago.

Once I get the rear calipers back from PMB, the brake system will be complete and all nice and new.

Made our own little bench bleeder out of the old brake lines as well.

Stoked on this! I'll be posting a full write up on my website if anyone is interested in the details.

This weekend I brought the 914 over to winter storage. It's been a good season with it, hope that next season brings as much enjoyment.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/c2.staticflickr.com-19709-1541431195.1.jpg)

Bonus, in the background you can see my new daily driver, a 2009 Cayenne S.

I think the 914 and the 957 are about equal in percentage of Volkswagen. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Took possession of a 'new-to-me' Bowlsby F.I. harness. It's really nice and will spruce up the engine bay when it's time to wire things up.

Also, whilst rooting around in the garage, I ran across a large box marked '1.7L F.I. parts' with a date of 2010. Opened it up and found all the D-Jet components - all nice & clean/repainted, ready to install on the new 1911 long block.

Intake tubes are still nice & shiny after all this time (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I had forgotten that I had prepped the parts almost 9 years ago (my how time flies) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Now I need to find the box with all the powder-coated tins ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

Test fit my "custom" oil pressure gauge sensor, utilizing an OG ambient temp sensor bracket and VW flex brake hose on my new 1911 motor.

Nice. What gauge are you connecting it to?

Not quite sure. VDO cockpit or the one that Dr. 914 sells or maybe have NHW speedo build one to look stock(ish). Any suggestions?

Restoration is almost complete but still shaking out the gremlins.

...my wife donated the old area rugs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif). Porsche’s like sleeping on rugs (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

No - was hoping you could tell me (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) ... I just happen to have a couple of spare 911 pressure senders and like how you did your set up.

I have a couple options. I remember getting a triple gauge unit from Kapt Kaos a decade or so ago ... will have to look for it to see if it indeed has a pressure gauge. If so, it will need some LED strip lighting to match the gauges that Timothy ( @timothy_nd28 ) did up for our '71's original dash gauges.

The car didn't originally come with a center console, but I do have one, so another option would be to install a small pressure gauge (if I know which gauge to get) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif)

I need to fish an additional wire from the engine bay to the dash for an oil temperature gauge too. The car didn't come with a temp sender either, but I have a Jonsey taco plate and VDO sender earmarked for it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Let me know which route you take (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)
