I'm curious. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

What is the correct coating for the headlight pivots & the headlight bracket plates?

I know the headlight motor arms are supposed to be yellow plate. What is it for the rest? Does it depend on year? 914/6 vs 914/4? Day of the week? How drunk Hans was? Supervisors mood?

Most of these parts are painted over in bad repaint jobs of the cars. For those who are wondering, I was thinking about getting them plated in the correct plate if
possible.

What is your opinion? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Mine are gold and suspect they are cad plated. Yellow zinc would be cheaper and more eco friendly. Looks damn near the same too.

From the 28,000 mile car that came by last week. This is exactly why I took this pic (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) The backing plate in person is significantly more silver looking then the yellow on the bolts.

Been through many of these mounting plates and they were all silver plated. The bolts are gold plated. I have seen a few that people have had replated gold, but I am 99% sure they rolled out of the factory silver.

The cast metal 'arms' or pivots were bare though.

You can see the sacraficial layer of zinc, some of it remaining in the 28,000 mile car pic, and I can say that my cast pivots had yellow zinc remaining/ that they were originally goldish in color.

If I can, I'd rather go for originality across all years, but it looks like there is difference between the years and the special editions.

LE VIN run-brackets silver, headlight covers grey
7?-brackets yellow, pivots unknown
7?-brackets yellow, pivots yellow
7?-brackets clear zinc, pivots clear zinc
7?-brackets clear zinc, pivots no plate

^on all fasteners yellow

Now, it brings the question up what is the original coating of the headlight motor arm? Yellow plate, clear plate, dove blue/grey paint?

the headlight motor arm is yellow zinc on my 72. Not sure how to tell cadnium from yellow zinc though.

Whether these are yellow or silver, the confusion may lie in how yellow zinc can come in many degrees of yellow-ness sometimes just a vague hint.

It seems that later cars might have less things plated yellowish/ gold-ish? It's definitely apparent on the lid letters and badges. I wonder if they did parts like door strikers to match. Seems this is a topic for the other forum though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smoke.gif)

The ones I have seen are as follows:
The cast Pivot arm brackets were zinc coated.
The plates, fasteners, and pivot arm were cad plated.
