Talk of 200, 250, 300 hp in a 914 just plain scares me.

I agree!

Had a nice ride in a 3.6 track 914 that was almost keeping up with the new GT3 Cup Cars at the Glen. Very sweet.

There are 107 different ways to build a "Jake engine" and no standard price...

There is a huge difference beyond torque and HP curves between a stock 3.2 and a modified 2.5 Type IV. Jake, have you ridden or driven in a 914 with a big 6? Driving both back to back would make for a very interesting comparision. Or even better, owning and driving both over the course of a couple months would be even better.

I agree with others that both are probably good solutions - I'd like to have a 2.5/4 as an 800 mile per year autocross car, and a 3.6/6 as a 5k miles per year weekend/DE/road trip car (done).

that's a lot of "coin" ,but my VR6 conversion keeps going up in price and in the end might be damn near that price ....right now I'd be happy with a bone stock 1.7 to drive at the rate I'm gettting my /4 running (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

Or $2k to $4k more and you could have a really nice 3.6 conversion with modern fuel injection.
