530hp. That is a candidate for a freekin ZF.

Fast 0-60 times are not what the 914 is all about. I’d have to see professional timing results to believe in sub 5 sec. runs from anything but a very radical car. To be set up for very fast 0-60 times would require a car built to handle it, meaning very wide rubber, very strong CV’s, trailing arms, and chassis in general. It would also be helpful to have a first gear that could handle a full throttle romp, and not need shifting until 62mph or so. That means a very high RPM capable motor and a trans with a fairly tall first gear, basically the 930 fits the bill.

That being said, I took a ride in Renegades shop demo car, and even with 225 tires and around 320hp, and a regeared 914 trans it was a scream. They can be quick, but the Ultima GTR just did 0 to 100 to 0 in something around 10 seconds flat, besting the Mclaren F1 by a substantial margin. The quarter mile was around 10.5 sec, 0-60 an amazing 2.8 seconds, and 0-100 in something like 5 seconds.

It took 640hp, 335 rear tires, a G50 transmission with limited slip, and a 2200 pound car. All you have to do is follow that recipe in a 914 and you will have a quick and fast car!

Actually a QUAIFE Qtech 6 speed Gearbox with Sequential Shifter is the way to go.

Ok, I admit it. I was actually more impressed with 30 to 90mph in the 914-6/3.2 that I got a ride in.

I have 3.2 with a little tweaks (270hp engine). Rookie drag racer burning rubber first and second gear, still 13.3 with 2.375 60 foot and 176km/h. Car had no LSD and gearbox had track ratios. Second pull destroyed the whole gearbox, but it was fun.

I don't know if any of this is accurate but I lifted it from a different post.
------------------------------
stock 914 2.0:
0 - 60: 9.5 sec
1/4 mile: 17.2 @ 84 mph
40-60 in 5th: 9.6 sec

2270 B engines (153 hp in the dyno run posted):
0 - 60: 5.8 sec
1/4 mile: 14.1 @ 101 mph
40-60 in 5th: 5.8 sec

At this point (14 flat) your running with any stock Mustang Cobra and Camaro SS, and plainly outhandling them too. At least you can keep up with a '92 twin turbo RX7 in a straight line.

a 165 hp 2.4 E (six) gives the following:
0 - 60: 5.2 sec
1/4 mile: 14.0 @ 104.2 mph
40 - 60 in 5th: 7.1 sec

The quick time to 60 is due in large part to hitting 60 in 2nd instead of 3rd gear. 1/4 mile time is about the same as the 2270, even with the extra weight of the six conversion. The 40 - 60 number shows the 911 engine's low-rpm softness.

A 190 hp 2.7:
0 - 60: 4.6 sec
1/4 mile: 13.3 @ 109.2 mph
40 - 60 in 5th: 6.1 sec

Yeehaa!! You're now in '97 Vette and 98 NSX territory.

210 hp 2.7:
0 - 60: still 4.6 sec
1/4 mile: 12.8 @ 113.5 mph
40 - 60 in 5th: 5.0 sec

A tick quicker than a '97 Lotus Esprit V8 and the '99 Diablo VT Roadster.

210 hp carb'd 3.0 liter:
0 - 60: 4.9 sec
1/4 mile: 13.1 @ 112.4 mph
40 - 60 in 5th: 5.4 sec

224 hp 3.2:
0 - 60: 4.6 sec
1/4 mile: 12.8 @ 115.3 mph
40 - 60 in 5th: 5.0 sec

249 hp worked 3.2:
0 - 60: 4.1 sec
1/4 mile: 12.2 @ 119.3 mph
40 - 60 in 5th: 4.2 sec

At Phoenix International Raceway the weekend before last I found myself side by side with a Spec Cobra - about 500-550 HP (don't know the weight). My car is a 3.4 and about 325 HP and 2050 lbs. We were in turn 9 at PIR (the slowest corner), I was in second gear and shifted to third coming out of the turn and the Cobra could not pull on me all the way through third. When I shifted to fourth gear, the Cobra pulled away - I'm not sure what gear he was in. I followed him through the banked turn at PIR at about 125 mph. It was a hoot running with the big bore guys. Many were not equal to my 914.

You can see even with a 165hp six in a 914, it's a fun car! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/driving.gif)

That's what I figured, a stimulator.....stimulates conjecture. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)
I KNOW I can get my car into the 13s.....the 12s would be a stretch. If all I have to do is steer a straight line & shift, my 901 is pretty quick shifting.....not T-10 quick....I don't have the guts to powershift it cause I'm out of practice & Porsche syncros ain't that gud.

I saw that in POUNDS, how much is it in OUNCES or DOLLARS?

I am still pretty sure the 6 speed ZF is BETTER. (and you get new axles... new axles without CVs)

Here is a simulator for Harley Motorcycles.

http://www.nightrider.com/biketech/accel_sim1.htm

NightRider Simulator

When I get home I'll pull out my 914/6 owner's manual and pull the data off the dyno graphs and see how it compares to the factory data.

ps: JP - your car will easily run 13's! My daily driver BMW runs 14's and it weighs 3600lbs. My teener puts the BMW to shame. The 2.7 in your car probably has 35hp on the 2.7 in my teener ... from what I can tell, my motor is a stock U.S. '77 2.7 (CIS) with 40/32 Webers and Bursch Headers.

A 2.7 in a 911 with three people pulls like a tractor. (beam)

That's a rocket.

My mild built 350 Chevy in my car routinely outruns Z06 Vettes in the street. I don't worry about grinding reverse when I go from 1st to 2nd...I just take off in 2nd, 1st gear is a simply a waste of time. I'm really worried about destroying the trans, so a good slip of the clutch and granny shifting...I can't imagine what times I would have with a shift and drop clutch method of driving; maybe many times in the garage fixing things.

Even in normal driving, the car does just fine taking off in 2nd. The difference between a 300 horse Chevy and a 300 horse Porsche engine, is the Chevy's horsepower curve is flat! I've got a much larger average horsepower across the rpm range than the Porsches....except now with the variable cam timing; that is way cool stuff!

The rice rockets are simply getting on my nerves and wasting my gas.
