First, thanks for the education on how the R Group was founded.
As for those that feel have a dislike of their membership criteria. .. so what.
Halfway through this trend, I found someone who likes to wear a T Shirt. . My family always ask me why I wear a T shirt and jeans.
My response has always been, Monday through Friday I have to wear a white shirt and a tie. On weekends, I wear T shirt and jeans...as I don't need to impress anyone.
So I might or might not get invited. .. if I don't, I'm okay too.
There's more to life than that. Oh, they have some interesting 911's for sure.

WOW this thread sure took off. Less than 24 hours and 3 pages. Pretty funny stuff too.
There's interest in this. We just need organization.

Here is decal for members of the 914 R Gruppe. The 1 could possibly relate to the member number, when they joined?

Love the logo. Since I started this thread, may I be #1? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif)

I thought this whole subject sounded familiar to me

I think Jeff Bowlsby summed up my thoughts pretty well.

914 enthusiasts stereotyping R Gruppe enthusiasts in 2016 is just as lame as 356/911/912 enthusiasts stereotyping 914 enthusiasts in the early 1970s.

Instead, why don't you roll out and you know, talk to some of these enthusiasts? The vast majority of the folks who come to EASY are the real sea and very cool. Okay, maybe not as cool as 914 folks, but I may be biased. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

See you tomorrow, ConeDodger!

Stereotyping? If people were not attempting to apply a label to a subset of individuals there would be no group to sterotype in the first place. I am not the one looking to label people here.

I respect car enthusiast of any make or model, most of them are probably even good people, but what exactly is the point of an invitation only subset of a larger established community if not to be pretentious?

I've been rolling out and talking to Porsche enthusiasts literally since the day I learned to drive and never in this time have I seen any reason why anyone would need an invitation only exclusive label attached to them just for being an enthusiast. For people who do feel the need for an exclusive label ill gladly give them one of my own...

I have no problem with the people, I have a problem with the idea that being in an exclusive group brings any benefit to the community. Really whats the point?

I'm sure you can see how important it is to spread the message! Even when you're on hostile grounds...
An extremely hot afternoon in Maranello, last July.

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/i211.photobucket.com-18384-1454744154.1.jpg)

A shirt with the three dash gauges (especially with the tilted rev counter!) would be great as well! The position of the needles is very important, off course...

Uh... I think your shirt is on backwards... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif)
But I LOVE the idea of a shirt with the gauges on it! Maybe the gauges on front and Save the 914 on the back?! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)
And being there were fewer 914s ever made than 911s, we're already pretty exclusive even if others don't think we size up. I'd rather drive something you don't see every day rather than feeling like I have to show everyone else the size of my bank account.

There are two versions: with the logo on the front and -you've guessed it- a version with the logo on the back.

I do have a shirt with the Porsche gear pattern on the front. I first saw it on Overhaulin' (the Chip Foose show) and last year I found it online.

Just pick a convenient location near coffee and breakfast edibles, then post the time and date. Drive car there, park and meet. Simple as that. No secret handshakes required.

Going to charge dues and issue membership cards, T-shirts and a newsletter? If you want to create a hierarchy, a board of directors, officers and such, by all means do it, but IMHO, it's really not necessary.

I guess I don't get it. Many times I see threads putting down the "big buck" 911 and 356 crowd and the snobbiness that is associated with some of those communities. Yet at the same time I see many threads expressing hope that our teeners will skyrocket in value and fund our retirements, or arguments why our cars should be worth such values, but yet with those types of prices, groups like R Gruppe are bound to occur; then the threads will start voicing complaints about how our rough and tumble, close-knit group of comraddes have become snobs.

I'm part of regular crowd that just doesn't play well with others. I've been chastised about mods to my 914 and 911 (but also been complimented) and I'm the odd man out in my regular group of car friends who prefer pasta over brats with their Ferraris and Lambos, most of them modified to some extent and also don't fit in well with their respective owner communities. To all of us it's about our interest in cars and friendship, not about originality or exclusivity.

Do we need an R Gruppe or similar? Come hang out in Hershey then get back with us... And that's not gas on top of the cooler (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) I happen to be wearing the exact same shirt just now.

And, I refuse to join any club that would have me as a member.

Will the 914 R groupe be allowed to sit at the table at a breakfast? Will we get to vote on it? Should they have to cover the whole tip as they have vast amounts of to spend on parts to be allowed in their exclusive club? Will they have to park elsewhere? Many questions.

There is no need for a special group. We are all special.
The restoration guys may want a special group, but the rest of us have customized our cars.....most of us.
