Updated -I am thinking of removing the standard backpad. Anyway, I have a couple of questions. What should I cover the firewall with, perlon or carpet? Pros and cons of either? I would imagine that the sound insulator would need to come out and then glue the perlon/carpet to the bare metal? Is there anything I can do to reduce the additional noise? where can I relocate the backpad light? Any help and or suggestions appreciated, got any pics of yours post them please! TIA
Completed changing the backpad to perlon, wanted to share a couple pics. |

I really like it.. Now I need to source the kit or material. The kits are pieced together but only seem to come in grey. I want black. 914rubber has perlon for a good price and your choice of backed or not. I believe you want to buy the non backed perlon because it will stretch and mold around the firewall. I’m using some self adhesive rubber soundproofing that I bought on amazon. It’s pretty thick so I will spray adhesive and lay the perlon directly on the rubber. I also have to grind off the clips that hold up the backpad and maybe fill the screw holes. |

I also have to grind off the clips that hold up the backpad and maybe fill the screw holes. When I bought my perlon carpet set from Mike I just asked for extra material to do the firewall. He sent me an extra piece of matching perlon with no backing. I put it on over sound deadening material using spray adhesive. The only part in the least bit tricky is the joint of the carpet up against the window. I made a template out of a bunch of pieces of paper taped together and then put that on the fabric to match the profile of the window. otherwise the unbacked perlon forms easily to the contour of the firewall with no wrinkles. piece of cake. For lighting I cut a 911 light in down low on the firewall just above the tunnel. works great. |
