Everybody posts what they've accomplished in the 'What Have You Done to Your 914 Today?' thread ... well, this is a special thread for us enthusiasts to post why we haven't worked on our car(s) and precisely why they're still on jack stands, and/or buried somewhere under mounds of shit in the garage, etc. ... some of them, for decades (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

Since I'm one of 'those guys', I guess I'll start (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

As some of youse guys may already know, in an effort to gain additional parking and work space, I've been prepping an area in my back yard to accommodate said space. I need more elbow room, because the cars are currently parked back-to-back in the narrow driveway, and that simply doesn't allow me to easily work on any of them. Having close access to the garage will also be a big plus.

Gravel & the rebar was installed today, need to put down some dobie blocks and the concrete is scheduled to get pumped in and troweled tomorrow ... weather permitting. The form running the length is spacing for bricks to line the edges between the new slab and the existing walkway, giving it a little more 'wife pleasing' appearance (IMG:style_emoticons/default/cheer.gif)

The design retains some grass that the wife was adamant about, and a sweeping curve, which will allow any of vehicles parked there an unobstructed path through the bottleneck to the driveway. The curved portion will also receive brick edging, creating an eye appealing appearance, but retaining a more utilitarian purpose. At least, that's how I sold my wife on the whole idea (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

I should be able to utilize the new-found pavement in a few weeks if all goes as planned ...

Polishing my tools as we speak. Wait ... that didn't sound right (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif) I haven't dug a foundation in years. Fun stuff!

This is replacing my trusty '68 JD500...up for sale if you want a project. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) The funny part is it's actually a downsize.

Not sure about where you are, but I see Huber graders for sale all of the time for cheap. Seems like <$2k can actually get a pretty good unit (from my old iron loving perspective at least).

Yeah, those are pretty big. Almost rubber-tire excavator level. Though I've seen a few 710s around-talk about huge. The 410 is actually a nice step down in size without sacrificing too much capacity, even though its only a few 1000 lbs lighter.

Didn't play in the shop- binged the new season of Drive to Survive... and even for a F1 fan since the mid '60's, found it entertaining...

Yesterday was electronics repair day.

The treadmill died the other day. While my wife was on it and nearly threw her off when the belt stopped suddenly and she still had walking inertia. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)
Attached Image

$250 for a motor driver circuit board. Not happening. Time to troubleshoot it to find what failed.
Attached Image

$0.75 cent offender found and replaced.

Treadmill is working again. Having “saved” $249.25 by not buying a new control board, I can now justify the money I spent on 914 parts the other day and still have some money left over. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

Then there was my favourite vintage pre-amp that gave up the ghost after the cross country move even though I packed it very carefully.

This one was due to two heatsinked transistors vibrating (40 year old glue let loose). The movement broke the solder joints. Resolder - no parts required. Glad to have it back in operation!

Well...Sue our daughter's trainer is 78 and struggles getting around the barn while training. The parents got together and bought her a used golf cart. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving-girl.gif) The HS boys that feed on Sundays load the golf cart up with too much hay and managed to break a leaf spring. So, I got to replace the leaf springs...
Attached Image

While replacing the leaf springs I noticed the tires were dry rotted and cracking. I'm sure all the extra weight doesn't help! So, fast forward a week and I'm replacing golf cart tires. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)

In my spare time, I've helped out a local member with this repaint, now back to Irish Green.

Good bones, minimal rust, great gaps

Can't wait to see it back on the road here in SoCal
