hello, heads came back from the shop, new seat, heads were machined, needed 0,15mm rectification.
I would like to know how to check that the two cylinders are exactly at the same height in order to avoid head and cylinder leaks. Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() |

You must grind off some of the rocker arm (while not letting it get hot). I can't remember exactly how much off the top of my head so do a search for it. Also order the solid spacers from the hydraulic lifters Buses/vanagons to replace the springs on the rocker arm shafts so the rocker arm can't move around.

You can take a cylinder and using valve lapping compound, lap the cylinder to the head sealing surface as no one uses those head gaskets. As for alignment the heads should have been flycut using a jig to ensure they are the same.

by cleaning very carefully all the surfaces and change the niche cylinders, I arrive at a difference between each sides of cylinder of 0.05mms By cons the deck is only 0.8mms. Is the problem with a small deck only increasing compression, which is not a concern in Europe with the 98 octane fuel. But can the valves meet the pistons with 0.8mm? |

In inches thats .0314 which is pretty tight deck as we “usually say .040” is the safest. I know some racers run a .030” deck safely. Check your pistons to valve clearances.

I saw some pics showing testing the gap with a clay.
It seems that even with a small deck, valves are far away the piston in a stock engine. Right ? |

That oil temp wire should be mounted on a stud behind the fan shroud on the right side. The wire should have a small metal tab that goes on the stud.

The oil temp wire plugs in to the main harness near the battery area through a small hole in the engine tin. There should be another single wire protruding from the main wire harness with a plastic connector piece.
