Just a few years ago you could buy really nice ones for teener money.

I've always wanted one but they do scare me. Definitely orders of magnitude more complex than the 914.

At the time I was seriously considering buying one I would follow the 928 forums. It was not uncommon to hear people boasting about how they completed a 300 mile trip without a breakdown. If that is their definition of reliability I figured these could be a never ending money pit.

But yes, they look great.

Congratulations Ben, these are great cars. I have an ‘84 with ‘88 engine and front suspension and it is flipping awesome.

These are capable of intergalactic miles if properly cared (which isn’t really that difficult since build quality is outstanding).

Rented a storage spot and ordered a hood, wiring harness, fan assembly, airfilter from Mark Anderson. He was great to deal with and good prices. The pictures look worse then it is.. though it's not a quick fix it is fixable Attached Image

That is much worse than mine was, but all do able. Looks like it might have been the main positive lead to the charging post that caused it, its not fused and can contact the frame, (the protective sleeve cracks) you get alot of heat fast, and return fuel line is right beside. common enough cause on 928's

Likely for sure.. I need to make sure I have all the harnesses I need. Going to make sure the ones going in are in good condition and repair what needs to be done.. I can't wait for spring to at least wash off all the nasty fire damage.

Awesome looks like fun. A few years back someone was selling a mid 80s 928 near me for something like $750 because the car dumped fuel into exhaust, backfired and melted the taillight on the drivers side. Scared the owner so he just wanted it gone. I wish I had jumped on that one the car was very clean.

Its pretty amazing that this car is very plug and play.. unplug the old harness, plug the new one in, new fuel lines and paint the hood and fender and all don't. I will have about 5k total in this car finished and it is so nice it will easily be worth 5 times that.

I have found a few sources. The most responsive has been 928rus. 928 international has been helpful as well. I did have to buy a new radiator because the side tank melted from the fire just enough to cause a pin hole. Doing the water pump, timing belt and the porken tensioner this weekend. Sent the ECUs out for testing. I bought the 10bar fuel injection hose to rebuild the fuel lines from 928 Motorsports and use the oetikar (spelling?) Clamps. Last big purchase is injectors as I have 7 that could be cleaned but missing an 8th so I see that a bunch of people went with the 5.0 Motorsports Ford injectors. Not sure on a solution for that yet.

Cost wise I would say the parts market is on par with 914-6 parts. The radiator and fuel injectors will push the project into 6k but still a good value.

Those Ford injectors are a good option if Budget is driving the selection process, I don’t mean that to suggest that they’re not a viable option. I put those in my 84 when it had its original engine and they worked fine.

Press on Ben, these are extremely satisfying cars to own once they’re sorted.

They are actually fairly expensive @500 for a set of 8 which I was surprised.
