To say that I’m impressed would be a huge understatement. Thanks for the activation energy to do my minuscule metalwork project ignored for a decade.

Thanks a lot! And really happy if my posts can motivate someone to start on it, metalshaping is so great (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)

So, then comes a big step..the quarter panel!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I made it myself of course.. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) first, adjustment:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177894.1.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177895.2.jpg)

And then cut, tack welded:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177895.3.jpg)

And then welded:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177896.4.jpg)

My door gap is so much better than it was! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177896.5.jpg)

Planishing:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177896.6.jpg)

And done: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177897.7.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177897.8.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177897.9.jpg)

The last missing part was the small bracket at the front of the wheel:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177898.10.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177898.11.jpg)

All looking good: (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1650177898.12.jpg)

Thanks for following along,

Antoine

Thanks a lot guys, really kind of you and happy that you enjoy the journey here! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

So, we have the next update..
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1651037206.1.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1651037207.2.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1651037208.3.jpg)

Yes it's back on its wheels and trust me, what a big step after all these frame repair!! Motivation got really high in a couple minutes!!

I directly started to put back some stuff like engine bay seals:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1651037209.4.jpg)

And the short stainless steel lines:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1651037209.5.jpg)

Yes, a 914 on jackstands for too long get's tiring. It's a good feeling to have a project take that step to being back on the ground.

Looking good!

Going for a respray of the whole 914 when all done?

A lot more happened during the last weeks

I worked on getting all the elements in primer:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652502269.1.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652502270.2.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652502270.3.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652502271.4.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652502271.5.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652502272.6.jpg)

And I finished the stainless steel fuel lines installation (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Stay tuned,

Antoine

We got some colors!!
I decided to make it a bit unconventional and paint a couple parts first to allow me to move forward with the build..
So here some fresh paint!!
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652859312.1.jpg)

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652859313.2.jpg)

And then I could build the fresh air box, the wiper system and the tank back:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652859314.3.jpg)

And here:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652859314.4.jpg)

And the engine is back in:
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.thesamba.com-24690-1652859315.5.jpg)

Now to connect everything, and try to start it again..and of course body paint/building of all parts.. it will move fast now, I want it on the road in june !

Great progress and are you spraying enamel single stage?

Also, cool ancient workshop, how about a pic of the exterior

You go Antoine! Knocking it out! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) I’d give that ground strap a good cleaning (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
The ancient fuel injection gets finicky with bad grounds. I’m sure you know that already.
It must feel good to have some colour on it. Keep going.

Thanks a lot guys for the nice words!

@930cabman : Il will try to think to make a picture from the outside, even if it's not that special outside except the stone above the door saying "Built in 1560, damaged in 1704 and rebuilt in 1719"..so I own a shop that is almost 500 years old (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)
For the paint : No, base+clear coat..got this recommandation, looks actually pretty nice for a first time garage paint..nice enough for me and no stress to use it !

@Dion : good eyes! I changed the strap after the pictures, I had forgotten to do it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif) well, must be ok with the grounds, it started with no issues yesterday ! Soon the first test ride !

I love your garage. We were in Germany last month and saw several old garages similar to yours and I fell in love with them. After viewing them I understood why we refer to our construction method as "stick building"! Compared to those massive wooden columns/posts's our 2"x4"s look like tiny sticks. That orange peel will easily buff out and look like glass. Keep uptake great work. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Whoa! Antoine ! You weren’t hanging about. That’s getting it done.
Is that a base coat/ clear coat system then? Did you make a “booth”?
How did you control the “cloud” exhaust fans running?
Just curious how you did it in that very cool garage.
Happy you have colour on there! Looking great.
Cheers
