It has been a busy couple of months, but it is all official now. I am moving to Oregon!

I got a transfer approved for my job and took my family to OR this weekend and bought our first house. It doesn't have the 3 car garage that I really wanted, but it is close in my job and has everything that will keep the wife happy! All of this has been motivated by the ridiculous housing prices in the Bay Area (median is now $705,000) and the enviroment (i.e. schools) that my newborn son will be growing up in. We are very excited.

Now for the 914 content...

1. I will be in the Portland area for the WCC 2006!!

2. On my drive back home on Sunday, I saw two very clean looking yellow 914's and one orange one with chrome side door trim traveling Northbound between Eugene and Portland.

So, who in the Bay Area wants to help me move? I will be getting a large Rental Truck the last week in Sept. and two car trailers (one for the teener and one for the '69 912).

Anyone up in the Portland area wanna help my upload?

I can't believe you bought a house already. I am so happy for you and so jealous at the same time. I should be able to help you move towards the end of sept.

Congrats to you, Angel and Bryson! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/clap.gif)

Let me know, Britain. If I'm still jobless, I'll even help drive up! (Specially if I can get you to chip in for airfare back down.) I'll crash at my folks' place out West (past Hillsborough) when we get there...

Well, I'm happy for you and sad for me. All my Texas folks are moving away. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif)

I'll see if I can help, but I will be required to work the last weekend of every quarter close, so I may not be able to help. We'll see.

Well come on up and enjoy the good life! I grew up in Sunnyvale, never go back to that over priced and overpopulated silicon hole. There's a bunch of us hanging around here. Where specifically are you going to be? More 914's at the A/X, love it! Let us know if we can be of any help.

Thanks to all who have replied.

We are moving to Hillsboro, OR. I work at Intel and will be living close to the campus there.

As for the trailer, I would buy it but would have no place to put it. Send me some pictures, we shall see.

Dave, I might take you up on the offer to help drive up and pay for a trip back for you. We have the rental truck with one trailer and the Yukon with the other. The probably is, we have a 6 week old baby and would have to stop several times if my wife had to drive one of the vehicles.

Lyressa, no worries. My wife and I might plan a get together for all of our friends here in Sept.

Jeff, you can only afford a house if you move out of this place. I have several friend with PhD's who graduated for one of the top graduate programs in the US for semiconductors and can't afford a house in this area. It is pretty said that people with good jobs and good education can't buy a house without having to put everything on the line with a interest only or zero down loan. You now know what I had to do to get aroud it.

Congrats on the job, baby, house....man you're busy!

FYI - Intel announced that their new plant here will add about 1000 jobs. Come one, come all to Phoenix and I'll get you a house you can afford!

Better get those california plates off your car ASAP. Keyed paint, cut tires; they still do that childish sh*t up there to California types?

Anyway, hope not. Good luck in OR.

shocked by the "cheap" housing were you? you couldn't have picked a nicer time to move up here. enjoy your new state. see you at portland international raceway. wait until your friends at intel discover the housing costs near the dupont (tacoma, wa) plant.

Here is a few pictures. We are having the entire house repainted different colors as part of the contract. It should be really nice. The best part was that is was priced below market value for the neighborhood because the seller was "motivated" to sell. It was also on the low end of our range and therefore should allow more funds for upgrades to the house and the car!

Hey Britain I worked with Intel for 3 years in Hillsboro before I transfered to Chandler AZ. Didnt realize you were an Intel guy. Rank and review going well? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) I lived in South East Portland for 7 years as a Bay Area transplant. Portland area is a great place to raise a family. You'll know you have assimilated when you dont run when it rains! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) ...congrats

Oh yeah JP is going to hate you when you start AX up there! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif)

Also beware the Portland area housing market is quite fickle. Things can drop off in a hurry there when a major employer leaves the area. I never bought as I had a great house in the Ladds Addition I was renting for $400 per month. I couldnt justify buying a house and just invested in Intel stock which paid off quite nicely.
