Put me down for one. My 914, owned since new, did not come with one of these. Always looked like something was missing.

These were never a factory part. Always aftermarket. A good addition though.

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) Never original equipment. An accessory.
As for venting.....or vacuum, early cars had a round shouldered non-vented cap and a
nipple on the resevoir with a drain hose toward the ground.
Later cars had a square shouldered vented cap. On these overflow was contained by
the perimeter wall on the top of the resevoir.
PS never push your caliper pistons back with a full resevoir and a vented cap on a late car.
You'll squirt brake fluid skyward.

Look on P.7 of your Haynes. Is the spout cast in to your cover?

Look on P.7 of your Haynes. Is the spout cast in to your cover?

The cover has a notch that gets cut out if you have the spigot. It slips over it nicely but will require you to remove the hose and reinstall it after the cover is on. You can see the one we saw at WCR was cut for it and didn't have the overflow. The more opaque version I made (thicker) makes it hard to see as the reservoir is new and the same material. I'll get some better pics up next week.
