QUOTE(Stephane @ Aug 8 2005, 04:25 PM) Good job Andy! Two questions come to mind; 1st- Is the 944 stub & 914 stub axle the same overal lenght? 2nd- Does the 944 Cv have the same articulation as the 914 CV. Cheers Stephane these 944 axles are too long...see this thread for more info... 944 CV usage wtih 914 axles the 914 axle must be machined a little to work with the 944 CV (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1123464006.jpg) |

QUOTE(Mueller @ Aug 8 2005, 04:46 PM) the 914 axle must be machined a little to work with the 944 CV yes, but he asked about the "stub" axle ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) the 944 Stub Axle is the same width as the 914 stub axle on the CV side of the wheel-bearing, the only difference is that the actual thread that sticks out on the wheel side (outside) seems to be a bit longer ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Andy PS: i don't have a 914 stubby handy, but i can take exact measurements once i get back to EASY ... |

if by that you mean the degree of rotation, yes, the two CVs are completely identical, except the 944 CV is bigger ... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) Andy |

That's great, this sounds like a more affordable way to convert to 5 lug & I bet these parts are easier to find to.
Keep us posted please! Stephane |

actually I think the 944 CV's will give you more articulation, if I remember correctly from my dune buggy research, the bug CV's are the worst (probably pretty close to the 914's), then the 944 and TIV bus CVs are next, and then the 930 CV's give the best articulation and will handle the most power...
here is a good site with the different sizes: http://www.blindchickenracing.com/How_to/C..._joints_101.htm Tony |

hi Andy,
thats a really nice work !!! I've had the same idea to convert the rear to five lug using 944 parts . But i'm still looking for the right cvs. 944 rear axle Whats the partnumber of the 944 stub axles your using ? Mine came of a 944 turbo and have the part # 951.332.235.01. They fit right into the ealy 911 hubs, but they are a little bit longer than the original 911 stubs ( approx. 1/2 ") . greetings from Berlin (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_flagge6.gif) Benno |

QUOTE(sechszylinder @ Aug 12 2005, 11:12 AM) Mine came of a 944 turbo and have the part # 951.332.235.01. ok, just got back from EASY with some more info ... 1 - yes, same part number on the 944 stubbies. they fit just fine. 2 - the CVs don't have to be from a 944 turbo, ALL 944s with aluminum trailing arms have the same halfshaft and CVs, however there are 3 different types of stub axles and hubs on those (later) 944s. 3 - the donor 944 needs to be post-mid-85 4 - Price: used 944 turbo axle (including the stub axle) ~$100 per axle (*) 5 - Price: used coarse spline 915 output flange ~$75 per flange (*) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/boldblue.gif) Andy * prices may very depending on your haggling skills. you can increase your haggling skills using manna from slashed goblins. |

QUOTE(Aaron Cox @ Aug 12 2005, 02:19 PM) will 944 AUTOMATIC CV's and Stubs work? IIRC.. the stubs are the same. But I think that the axles are different for an Auto. But I have been known to be wrong. BTW... I beat everyone here to it. I have this setup on my car right now. I have driven it and it works fine. |

clay -
the AUTOMATIC axles look to have the same CV's and STubs....BUT the axle length is different.... not happy about the price and rareness of the 915 flanges though (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) |

QUOTE(Aaron Cox @ Aug 12 2005, 01:49 PM) not happy about the price and rareness of the 915 flanges though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) they're actually not *that* rare ... there were a few years somewhere between '75 and '80 when the 915 used the coarse splined input shafts ... and the price may very well vary from different vendors, what i listed is what *i* payed ... hi folks,
now i'm comletely confused. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) I've had a look at the parts catalog of mittelmotor (www.mittelmotor.de). They list only two different cv's for the 944. 1. 82 -89 all 944 2. S2 and Turbo According to PET there must be at least three different CV's, which means that 82-85 are different from those used on the later cars. Could someone bring a little bit light into the darkness ? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) Benno |

o.k. Andy, now i think i've got it (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) that means, that you can use any 944 (as well 924S) CV from 83 thru 91 in combination with modified 914 axles and the early turbo stubs. Later CVs from S2 and Turbos will not work, due to a different splining on the axle side. o.k. thats it (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/mueba.gif) now i will go out and hunt for parts ;-) Benno |

If anyone's looking to do this, there's a pair of 994 stubs on ebay, item 7992744129. Part numbers from the picture match. One more day to the auction. No association with the seller, thought someone might be interested...
