Building up a '72. Taking liberties from stock.
Never did care for the peek-a-boo headlights-wondering if anyone has found another home for them. Thinking of putting rectangular headlamps in the fog light openings and wondering if this would work, or be illegal somehow...thoughts and ideas? Thx |

Being in California, you very better much check your state regs. When I was there for a few years a long time ago the cops were pulling people over for having headlights too low on lowered cars (and, apocryphally, started the hydraulics-on-low-riders craze, where they'd pop the cars up whenever they were passing a cop...)
I've seen a couple 914s that had rectangular headlights melded into the recesses when you remove the headlights and doors, but that's gonna take some madz fabz skillz. In the end, no one sees your popped-up lights during the day, and probably won't see them at night, either. So why bother? Just set up your fogs to come on with the parking lights (or put them on a separate circuit) and be done with it. https://members.rennlist.com/demick/fogrewire.html |

Thx Illegal in most states since the headlights need to have a minimum height from the ground. Visibility would also be really crappy when they're too low to the ground. Most of us then lowered the body/suspension to adjust body rake to a more "aesthetically pleasing" level! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) |

Here’s my build link, Link to Michigan Build 2016 using these LED full size, hi & low beam, in the bumper for 6 years, work great, never been bothered by the authorities. I did have to do a small modification for them to fit. The turn pods now also have LED bulbs, fog lamps.

Thanks for the quick, informative replies. Many good points.
I'll just likely keep the pop-ups... |

I think that now it’s part of the 70s charm.
I bet that blinker location one works legally. |
