OK so I went down and got some aircraft stripper this morning. Reading and taking everyone's suggestions, based on previous posts. THis is some kind of joke right? THis is something everyone plans for the newbies?
It is coming off but with three layers of paint good god what a pain in the ass.......
I sear there is 12 coats of paint ifthere's one!!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

To top it off. I'm having the carpet cleaned, and the guy is running the hoses through the house, and then out the garage. He is finishing up and while winding his hoses, he knocks over the pan I'm using to brush the stripper on the car with, and the can of the stripper. Dragging the drop clothes the length of the garage!!!!
Is everyone stupid around the country, or just in California!!!

Deep breath!!!!!!

mmmm ok...Back to work.....

The "aircraft stripper" works great on smaller parts, but I can imagine stripping an entire car with it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/huh.gif)

This is gonna sound kind of hokey, but I'm using (or used a month or so ago for an experiment) a set up that I rigged for sanding the drywall mud in my house to lessen the amount of dust created by this process. I tried just hooking my shop vac to the sander with a length of hose, but the filter in the shop vac clogged within seconds from the super fine mud dust........so "plan B". I saw one of these at Lowe's, but couldn't see paying $40 for something so simple.

I'll see if I can describe it so I don't have to drag all of the crap out for a pic...I've got a 1/4 sheet Porter/Cable electric palm sander with a dust collector port (works fine on small projects, but clogs up fast). I ran a 1" dia. hose (15' long) from the collector port on the sander, into a spare 5 gal. bucket (old 'mud' container w/lid [hole in lid for inlet hose from sander, and enough hose fed through the lid to reach the bottom of the bucket]), filled the 5 gal. half way with water, cut another hole in the lid for my shop vac hose to fit through (tight fit, only inserted a couple of inches to prevent it from sucking water).

So here's what happens.....You switch on the shop vac, the shop vac sucks on the bucket drawing on the hose that goes to the sander collector port (think big waterpipe (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smoke.gif) ). The dust gurgles through the water in the bucket retaining a significant amount of the dust. Any dust that escapes the "water trap" is then filtered by the shop vac.....virtually no dusty mess created by sanding the car. And the shop vac filter lasts much longer before replacement is required.

You just pretty much described how an oil both air filter works. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wink.gif) Nice work.

Didn't think of it that way......don't have one on my car.

OH!! I forgot to mention in the "description". I drilled a shitload of holes in the part of the hose that is submerged in the water to make the bubbles smaller......it worked much better after I did that.

Six Coats???? Oh man.. It appears that I have three seperate layers of white. Multiple coats of primer etc.
It looks like I will need to apply three different applications before it's down to metal. I guess it's a hell of a lot easier then sanding!!!! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/headbang.gif)

It sounded like some sort of power BONG. Leave it to you Calyfornya types to think that one up.

Cyclonic dust seperators work on a cyclone principle allowing the dust to settle out toward the middle of the cyclone.

Hmmmm. We do have lots of tornados in these parts.

Perhaps things are invented depending on what you are used to....

I have stripped entire cars with aircraft stripper. Do a panel at a time and don't let that crap dry or it gets tough to get it off.

good luck

just my $0.02

Started with a 3'x3' section as suggested, I think it did let it dry to long. I have been giving it 45 mins per application. I will try giving 30 to see if that improves the end result.
