(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/huh.gif) Good point!......But I'm so friggin' old I didn't know that "Special_K" was a drug reference until the last FFC. I need to get out more! (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) Mine was meant more like "Isn't that 'special' " in a sarcastic SNL church lady kind of way. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/cool_shades.gif) Is ketamine good for stripping paint? Or just brain cells? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/wacko.gif) |

I just finished stripping my entire 914 down to metal. It took a day and a half. It only had a couple of paint jobs. I found that leaving the stripper on any longer that 15 minutes was tooooo long. On some of the tough spots, after one coat of stripper I would lightly score the paint with the edge of my putty knife which allowed the stripper to go-to-town.
A word of advice...be sure to get a good quality etching primer to lay down on the bare metal when you are ready for your initial coats. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) |

Hey dudes. Try single sided razor blades (c. 6.00/100) held at a right angle to the body work's surface. It takes a little patience but is cleaner and creates a meditative state in the mind. Its a method used befor the invention of sandpaper. The trouble with stripper is that in can get into cracks and leech out after the paint is applied..

Ketamine is a legitamate anesthesia drug. Being that it is structurally related to LSD it has the side effect of vivid dreams. Sometimes these are bad and the patient complains. I would guess the bad dreams come with 1 out of 100 patients. For this reason it is rarely used. I liked it because it is a respiratory stimulant unlike most anesthesia drugs. You don't have to worry about them stopping breathing. It is used far more often in veterinary medicine since if the patient has a bad dream you don't have to hear about it after they wake up. Now I just tried it and it will not strip paint. I would stick with methamphetamine for that... Rob |

Thanks Rob, you obviously know what you're talking about. I'm not sure how good meth is for stripping paint, but it's great at permanently removing toothless idiots that screw up trying to manufacture it. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif) |

Yo Brian,
If you are doing big panels... Put a thick coat of stripper on and then immediatly cover it with Visquene. Plastic sheets.. you can use trash bag plastic.. the rolled plastic for drop clothes.. It keeps the active ingredient in stripper.. Like Methlene Chloride and a few other aromatic solvents from escaping into the atmosphere. This allows the stripper to work for a MUCH longer period of time before it evaporates off... REALYY makes big panels strip faster.. Ask Skline... He saw it.. And now he is a believer... By the way... If ya want to make your stripper a bit hotter.. Add a bit "O" toluene or Methelyne Chloride to the mix.. Thats my 0.02 worth.... Twystd1 |

Yeah.. Stripping with BLASTED ON dry ice IS the shiznit.. Even takes off the undercoating on the bottom AND the interior floor pans.
Plus some of these guys are mobile. No residue, no stripper wicking into the paint a month later and no sand floating to the top of the paint.. Is really the hot setup... Gunna have mine done that way as soon as I get the rotiiserie from John at the body shop. Hey..... Heres one for you... have ya ever tried to get the baked on oil based sound deadner off the floor pan of a teener or even worse a honda? Just go buy a BIG block of dry Ice. Have em cut it in thirds. Place it on the floor pan... Wait ten minutes and hit the floor pan with a big rubber mallet.. The stuff shatters likes MattRs tears when Slits is yelling at him....And comes off clean. Way fast... And way time effective. Doesnt work for every nick and crany. But it works trick... This is an old school trick.. Me thinks I should write a book on how to do stuff the easy way.. And every non-member of our community gets to add a blurb..!!!!! We can call it. THE WAY AARON SHOULD OF DONE IT FIRST TIME AROUND" And for Bri... Yup if you add Toluene or even better Methlene Chloride. It speeds up the action of the stripper. And yes it evaporates even faster... hence using plastic to cover the stripper to slow down the evaporation rate and allow the stripper to stay PH compliant and effective for a longer period of time. I used to own a commercial striping company eons ago... the systems are still pretty much the same as they have been for 40 years. PM me if ya need a discourse on the possibility's.................................. Twystd1 |

The dry ice is a good deal , it can also be used in the hot sun on paint to remove small dings and hail dents. Apply DI and quense with a cold rag, wa-la.
At work we blast 18 wheelers and large equipment, we use Walnut shell , for us its the best , good on rust, leaves a profile, doesnt bleed out, removes paint, enviro friendly as it can be. With all that said I thought I would try the razor blade trick last night on my 914 right rear qtr, took all of 20 min (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/rocking nana.gif) . Well it work wonderfully, 7 coats of paint and you can remove them a coat or two at a time! Leaves a very workable finish that can be backed up with a DA for finish work . Thanks for the tip.....3cwest you can teach an old dog new tricks. |
