So my wife and I are heading to NY for our 10-year anniversary in April. We are looking for some good recommendations for places to eat. The only thing we have set in stone is going to Nobu one night for dinner. We are sushi freaks and that place is the shit. Any other ideas? We have never been there so bring on the good stuff! If you like steaks this is the place to go, Peter Luger's in Brooklyn. It is just over the Brooklyn Bridge. Johnny Carson even said on live TV that it was the best steak he ever had. Warning bring cash, they only accept their own card.

Yes Nobu stupid expensive and there are many other incredible sushi places Have you called Nobu for reservations? I havent been there in years but I understand its not a walk in
Lugers yes in so many ways... Balthazar is good for village eats.. though Im sure there are so many new "in" places this week LOL Vong is a thai/french place close to lincoln center chef is Jean George Vongithen.. supperb food, he owns a few other resturants that are worthy And the Met (Metropolitan Museum of Art) has a great new in house resturant... go see some masterpieces, and dine on some great food or vice versa.. Dont know what days your going to be in NYC.. but check The James Beard Society for cancellations. Its in James Beards old house in the Village.. Chefs from all over the world come to cook for this dinner club. Its a private club, but if the dinner isnt sold out they let in we that arent worthy.. good eats guaranteed SPQR in Little Italy.... then Ferraros for a canoli Bridge cafe if you want to have dinner looking at the Brooklyn Bridge at twilight missing the twin towers (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/sad.gif) |

For lunch try the Isle of Capri on 3rd ave one block from Bloomingdales....great food,nice staff and you can have a window seat and watch the world walk by.....been going there for years it's always a treat.

Was in NYC for a wk over Xmas.Stay away from tourist traps such as Tavern on the Green.Rockefeller Centre Rainbow Grill was Ok with great view,if a bit pricey,One surprise was that old standby,Sardi's-great food,good portionsize and service-reasonable wine cost too.Pick up one of those tourist-type booklets "Where"-tells u what to see and do and eat. The "circle tour" was great-an interesting perspective on the island-a 3 hr boat tour around the island.

Walk south on B'way from Columbus Circle. Window shop and buy food from street vendors as you go. Buy a Navy or Black Yankees knit hat. If you make it as far as Little Italy without undue gastric strain, Ferrara (touristy but good) for coffee and dessert.
Hail cab, go back to hotel. True taste of NY for less than $20 per person. If the weather doesn't completely suck, take the boat to Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. When done, walk over to Wall street and rub the bull's balls for good luck, and spend a few minutes at the Twin Towers site. IMO there are so many good restaurants it doesn't pay to chase the latest 'IN' one. |

Katz' Deli, east side of lower Manhattan. Best pastrami anywhere.
Go to a Ranger game. Ride on the subway. Admire some of the architecture of the buildings. I'm from around here, and every time I go into NYC, I find something else new and amazing. |

If your not bothered by not setting foot on Liberty Island, and dealing with the crowds that go see the Statue... Take the Staten Island Ferry to Staten Island, the ferry passes close enough to the Statue for some good pics. Its cheap.. though you do have to wait for return ferry to Manhattan.
Katz Deli is good.. real slice of the lower east side..the place hasnt changed in probably 60 years.. its a gem |

(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smilie_pokal.gif) lobster with claws bigger than my hands and a new york steak i could cut with my fork only. we've also done the world famous "rainbow room" for pre theater sitting/dinner and then taxi to whatever is on or off broadway theater.
