So I have twelve Ti rods, need six to build the GT3RS engine. Had a Ti expert look at them.. tells us all twelve are nice paperweights now

Call PMNA $3480 our cost for 6 Pankl rods

any one want to buy a souvenier? Im thinking of selling these rods on Ebay as curios

Good idea, but I don't think you will recover much of the $3480.

Ti rods have a coating .. you can see a parting line where they are hung from the small end and dipped into a specialized coating. The Ti rod will fail where this coating has been worn away..also the Ti fasteners are ruined when you loosen them...$1500 for new fasteners (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/ohmy.gif)

In my eye I had 12 rods that looked perfect.. but when put under a scope.. and having an expert show me the flaws.. We couldnt build the engine with the rods we had..

Where is your sense of adventure man! It's just a little coating after all. Nothing a little clear finger nail polish couldn't clean right up. Oh, and I'll take a cool paper weight too please (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/biggrin.gif)

First stupid question of the day. What is the coating?

Second stupid question, Why not have then re-coated?

Third one coming, Is the coating simply an inducator for metal fatigue?

We dont know anybody who recoats them, we dont know what the coating is. These rods are meant to have a service life of only 40 hours anyway. Im looking into the aerospace industry to see if there is a company tat can help outThe engines they came out of have about 20 hours on them, and we were hoping to get more use out of the rods.PMNA doesnt offer a reconditioning service for the rods. And there is a question whether or not they can be recoated/reconditioned. This is what we are going to explore next. Ill try and take some pics next week of the rods.

Its pretty amazing that the connecting rods in the GT3RS engines are considered a maintenance item. To be replaced when an engine is refreshed.

We know the owner of TiMet, a fellow racer. He
and one of his metalurgists visited the shop the other day equiped with microsopes etc. They gave use the bad news (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/laugh.gif)
