Yank it, mothball it and put in a 3.0-3.6.....you will never look back.

What is the "cleanest" (cheapest/easiest) engine to use for a 6 swap? If I wanted to stay with my current ignition system, fuel delivery, and oil cooler, what are my options (if any)?

We beat the 4-6 conversion to death, but what considerations have to be made when swapping 6-6? I know I'm going to need a conversion flywheel (3.0 or 3.2), but what else?
Would I be looking at a cam change in order to stay with webers, or are the stock cams OK?
Can I run a 3.0-3.2 without a front oil cooler (JP and Brad, feel free to fight this one out)?

Olav, what was changed on your car?

I'm not a CW, but I wouldn't want to make changes that can't be easily reversed.

Don't know the exact details (so get BA's book!!!) but I believe the 2.0 differs from later engines (2.2 and on) on the oil galleries/squirters...

cheers,

Jeroen

My 3.0 needed more cooling than the internal cooler could give it. The 3.2 probably the same. The 3.6 HAS NO internal cooler.

I did the 2.0T to 2.2S+ improvement in my 69 911 (I call it a plus because I did the oil mods, installed squirters, and installed a 930 oil pump) I did every upgrade and improvement to the engine and then some.

I havent added the receipts up, and dont really want to (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

I did all the assembly work myself, so the only costs were parts , machining, and shipping (shipping the various parts to be machined adds up) Of the top of my head Ill bet I spent about $9000 so far.

Im hoping to get between 200 and 210 HP out of this engine.

Are there cheaper ways to get more power? hell yea!!! 3.0 short block @ $3000, a 3.2 is about $5000 im guessing.

But I will have a 8000 rpm motor with a short gearbox in my 1850 lb 911 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

As others mentioned if you are going to run in vintage you need to with a 2.0 or 2.2. The 3.2 will knock you in to some very quick classes.

Porsche had the 914-6 re-homologated to a 2.5 because -6 racers were whining about not being able to keep up with the bigger engines 911s, according to lawyer and ex-Porsche racer David McLain.

Good Lord, that last post complained about a $9k engine swap. That MUST have been 17 years ago.
