It stinks of "Made in China".. otherwise a knockoff of Pertronix.. I don't see any innovation in their ads.

Update to my own post (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
I did some digging and the samba folks are trying them out. Another site http://www.itinerant-air-cooled.com/viewtopic.php?p=30151 I think they have thrown the towel in. even thought they mentioned that the people who make these http://www.hot-spark.com/Hot-Spark-SVDA-034-BOS4V1.htm have good customer service. I'm buying a Petronix and going to sell my crane optical if all goes well. |

Steve : I'v had a Pertronix since i got mine in 2000, I burnt one up a couple of yrs, ago. My fault ,not the unit, installed another , 2rs ago I love it. Why are you getting rid of the Crane?? I was under the impression that it was a up grade from the Petronix. Not suppose to burn out if you leave the key on like the Petronix. That's what I did. Am I wrong??? Dave,
I have to finally admit, that I'm dumb and dumber with this Crane unit. I get it to idle like a champ and it runs nice, but it falls on its face if I try and push it to the floor quickly. I have new everything ( injectors, fuel set for 28lbs, fuel regulator, sparkys, plug wires, fresh valve adjust) I could just go on and on. oh ya checked and the timing is dead balls on. I have no clue why this is not working as it should. so, the next logical strep is to replace the optical and try the Petronix II. If it goes well then I'll sell the Crane " XR-700 fireball" and move on. |

It doesn't sound like a "Crane" problem. You get the correct one for your distributor? Your vacuum advance/retard can working correctly? Your mechanical advance working properly? All of those can be tested with a timing light and perhaps a Mighty Vac.

Anyone have any knowledge about this new gadget? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...5525&rd=1,1 Don't do it! I'm on my second one! They can't take the heat generated by our engines. Mine runs great until it heats up then it all goes bad. |
