They are different from the regular gauge bulbs, they don't have a metal contact base, but just glass bottoms with the two metal wires for contact (like a xmas tree bulb)

Where to buy these please

Osram number, used in many cross-references, is "2721". (1.2w, 12v). I stock 'em. I partially agree, some of them are a different number, and are soldered or otherwise permanently affixed. The Cap'n

Some clarification please - is it a situation that the later fan switch has 4 illumination bulbs that are not activated by any switch controls, compared to the early units that have none? And are they just part of the BK/BL wire dimmable gauge illumination system?

I'd like to see one of these units light up, anyone got a night picture of them turned on?

Hard to tell without a picture, but could be these if no base. "grains of rice" bulbs. Available almost anywhere. Make sure of size and voltage
